Random Thoughts Thread
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
Was watching an older dvd and it had a sections for actor bios in the Special Features. What a sign of times. Just shows how info was much harder to get back then.
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
You cannot make an old TV do anything like a new one can. I know because I always try to make my old hardware live beyond its years by injecting transcoders in and out of the components and building long macros to make all the bulk function.
It's totally necessary if you reject new technology. I just bought a $67 Digital to analog HDMI audio extractor so my Nintendo Switch can have 5.1 audio extracted to RCA without my TV and amplifier involved. I can now extract and transcode the 5.1 audio from my switch into my 5.1 amplifier that cannot accept HDMI, but has a great signal to noise ratio.

I took the plunge and bought a C1 4K 120hz oled. It has 4 hdmi inputs and all my old tanscoder chain is obsolete. if I sold the bulk of the useful and working transcoders at a loss I'd about break even in this 4K 55" TV.

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
tell me how you like it. I am in the market for a new TV and split between Sony, LG, and Panasonic. I see many people are fans of the C1 from LG. There is also new technology called QD-OLED(or LED, who knows how many typs of LEDs are out there now)Anapan wrote:You cannot make an old TV do anything like a new one can. Re: Random Thoughts Thread
I can't yet comment as I'm out of town and can't experience my new 55" C1
The Qled relies on all of the thing I hate - smart area lighting, smart pixel dulling, smart scaling, and to top it off it can't do black levels.
I didn't do much research. I went to reddit.
90% of the topics were "C1 vs"
that tells me to buy a C1
Just bought a new PC with the good GPU, gotta have 120hz 4K capable screen with a perfect black level. I asked google about it and all point to a c1.

Whats with the big tv sizes craze?
I am researching best TVs and they all seem to come in the smallest size of 55 inch. This used to be the large size. i just want a tv for the bedroom, having a too big of a tv in a smaller room feels like going to the theater and sitting in the first row, you have to move your head around to see the full picture.

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
I have heard that yandex has the best reverse image search engine but I was totally shocked by this. I grabbed a screenshot from a youtube video. Sometimes technology is really mind boggling.
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
Repressive state has highly developed image recognition technology? No way!
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
1-well I believe Yandex is independent
2-Its not like USA is not involved in intelligence agencies and advanced weaponry. I mean the GPS system is just 1 of the USA army projects, they can see you from space. Internet is another usa army project. In fact, privacy concerned individuals are choosing to be located outside USA
so yeah, Repressive or not, Yandex wins this one over USA, Japan, China, and others. Impressive either ways. On the positive side, they let people all over the world to benefit from this advanced technology for free so thats a plus!

Re: Random Thoughts Thread
You’re right, that was an improper knee-jerk response. Thank you for calling me out on it.
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
Point of Information: GPS systems cannot "see you from space." The GPS system simply provides a constant transmission of time-stamped data simultaneously from an array of satellites. Satellites broadcast their OWN position (which is constantly changing).RCBH928 wrote:1-well I believe Yandex is independent

A GPS receiver can that can pick up signals from three or more GPS satellites can use that timestamped position data to triangulate its own position. The satellite does not even know that the receiver exists.
To use GPS for real-time tracking, that GPS receiver would have to also broadcast its own location.
Microsoft has a very good visual search. I just dropped a picture of the engine bay of my 1988 Suzuki Samurai onto both Yandex and Bing. Yandex gave me pictures of lots of engine bays. Bing did, too, but the top result was from a 1987 Samurai. I was actually really surprised at this. I mean, I knew that Micrsoft had a very good image fingerprinting/templating technology, but I didn't expect to actually get such a close match.
