Yep, and it's even not that hard. Hell, some people even used switches to make both the onboard games and the cartridge slot functional.arion wrote:metaleggman wrote:Also, those 40 are 40 of the best. No ET on there bro. Plus, like I said before, this is the real hardware.racketboy wrote:Zalphier wrote:Only 40 games? meh, I'd pass if I we're you. If you want to play an atari, look no farther than the real atari 2600. They're not too hard to find. Hell, I got mine for free(and sold it, hehe) Fun times though, seriously. There we're some decent titles. Like Pitfall, that's still fun to play today!
But I'm sure the newer machines have a longer lifespan and there is no cart swapping.
and its possible to add a cartridge slot although it requiers some modding

So sentimentally it's not the same. But it is a variant of the 2600. You've got to remember that there were many, many, many different versions of the VCS released, so I would have to compare all mobos and I have none of the 2600s nor a flashback 2.0 (emphasis on the 2.0, the first one was done hella shitty, so they just used real hardware). You've got to remember that just because the mobos aren't the same doesn't mean they aren't the same console. Take the NES 1 and 2. Or the Genesis 1, 2, or 3. It is a 2600. If you are indeed saying it's the sentimental factor which is important you should say that it's important to have an original VCS, 2600, 2600 Jr., etc, because, for a fact, it is actual 2600 hardware. That's why when used with the cart port it has complete compatability (to my knowledge).Zalphier wrote:okay, I dare you to compare flashback and 2600 motherboards, then come back to me saying the flashback is a 2600. All I'm saying is, (note:IMO) is that it's not the same as owning an atari 2600.

i know what you mean..i´d still prefer to have and original sega mega drive rather than mega drive II even if it is smaller and does the same thing its just not the same. Anyway since i never had an atari 2600 and no one i knew had one the flashback 2.0 seems to me like a cheap way to get the feel of the system but given the chance i´d still prefer to get an orginal atari with 40 cartridges

as somebody who cut my gaming teeth on a pong home console, thats right, it only played pong...
I have enjoy much time with the VCS or as you youngens call it 2600 hehe
I as somebody who owns numerous atari consoles and the Flashback 2.0, I think the Flashback 2 is well worth your money
its an "Atari on a chip" not and NES on a chip emulating an atari, like those crappy battery operated Jakks plug'n play units. This matters because the atari has a diff color pallet than the NES and sound is better also.
It also has standard atari ports, it can use orig sticks and paddles (there are a couple "hidden" paddle games)
the new atari joysticks that come with it are quality products, but of a different design than the origonals
it can be modded to accept a cart port, and while it wont play EVERY atari cart (like 10 or 15 it wont play) it will play most anything your interested in.
but no, I havent thrown out my old carts and atari consoles, it is not the origonal, but for your mild to moderate atari interest its a great fit. its also not very intimidating to the non gamer community (read as girlfriends, young childern, old people, etc) good for parties.
A+ in my book
