What was racket boy like when it first started?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I'm one of the small supply of regulars who wasn't a big fan of Sega back in the day. It was Nintendo for the entire cycle for me. But after getting a job I realized I now could afford to start backfilling some of the consoles I didn't have. The first one I thought of was the Saturn. I really enjoyed Shining Force I & II on the Genesis (picked it up at the end of its life) and so I started looking into Shining Force III as a serious purchase, especially since the translation project had actually gotten a far ways through. So while searching for information on other Saturn games that might be worth having and how I would play the translated Scenario II & III I wound up here.

I didn't join the forums, until recently, but I was browsing the web and stumbled upon this when I was thinking of getting a Dreamcast. I got my dreamcast back in 06' so I have been checking the site out monthly until recently, in which I check the site everyday... somtimes twice. I just thought the content was really good, and the reviews and opinions were very genuine, so that's what made me stick around. I haven't had a complaint with any reviews or anything as far as equipment and games I have bought specifically after going with the advice of the site owner.... or even you fellow gamers.

Fastbilly is a personal friend of mine, who I met through the Auburn University Computer Gaming Club. We also worked together at a small website reviewing hand held games, though both of us realize our reviews were pretty bad. Anyway, I quit writing to work on school, and Fast moves to this site and graduates. After a while, he keeps telling me about it, eventually saying that Racket would be a special guest at MomoCon '08. As I had just graduated and had been thinking more about video games, I figured why not meet the man.

I played a few rounds of X-Men Vs. Street Fighter with Racket, and decided I'd join the site. Been here ever since.

Gotta love how I focused on modchips and backups back then... lol
I've reformed a bit since then :)

The forum hasn't changed in the short time that I've been on it. I came aboard once I sort of rediscovered all of the video game stuff I had in storage from working at a game store years back now.

It was cool to stumble upon a retro gaming community, and it's defintely drawn me in to some of the more obscure gaming systems like the Sega CD and TurboGrafx16.

I actually remember the modchips and backups really well. I got my first Saturn modchip and like 2-3 full dvd's of dreamcast iso's from here. Finding someone who did that was like hitting the jackpot, being as I only had dial up at the time. One of my dvd's wouldn't read, and as usual racket followed through and sent me another copy free of charge.

Once I graduated high school I put retro stuff on the back burner and only within the past year have gotten back into it. Then I stumbled back on this site again one night at work and can't believe I forgot about.

Still the same informative articles and same overall feel. Which is great even with all the influx of people.

Man, fall 2004, that was a long time ago. That was like back when I was living in the town house with a waterfall. Literally, when it rained out the wall in my living room formed a 6 foot wide waterfall.

Once I had a party during a hurricane. The place was packed like a mosh pit and everyone couldn't figure out why I had no furniture in this arced shape area along the wall of my living room. When the hurricane finally dumped on us they all figured out... finally I had a place to stand with out being squashed... instead I got wet!

That's literally about the time I first showed up here from SX... I needed somewhere to nerd out while I was working graveyard at the pron site. SX was dieing and couldn't entertain me enough for the 8 hours. Yeah I know my profile says I joined April 1st 06'... notice that that is April Fool's day, I have NO IDEA how it got turned into that.

man... now I'm all reminiscent. I miss that place... that shitty, smelly, dive of crack hole with the drug addicts passed out on the couch and my brother fresh out of prison sleeping in the living room.

Woot!

I think the first time I stumbled on the site was when I first got a Dreamcast a couple years back. If the Racket store ever stocked Dreamcast controller extension cords (if you could get some, it would be great by the way), it was around then. I remember being mystified when I learned about the Dreamcast's VGA abilities and being suspicious of this being a scam site until I checked the forums. As soon as I realized the vast knowledge represented here, I figured that there was no way people who knew this much about video games could be bad. I lurked on the site about once a month from then on until I joined. Now I check the site usually a few times a day, but don't often post. So... yeah.
