Alright, everyone knows that the PlayStation was born as the result of a failed cooperation between Sony and Nintendo. But this article tells the details of how Sony was able to project it and make it successful. And has interesting anecdotes:

I love these articles that discuss the origins of a company, or it's brands.

Yeah, I like to see the quote from the execs who are no longer associated with the company and what was going on in their minds behind the scenes

What disappoints me though is that most of these prototypes, or scrapped designs are either held in a warehouse until the end of time, or the company collapses into bankruptcy. Why companies don't celebrate their past accomplishments in their respective industries by proudly displaying their successes and failures behind the creation of their successful or historically/culturally important products is beyond me. When I saw the Nintendo AES in the little 'Museum of Nintendo' at Nintendo World I freaked; it felt like I was truly privy to some great insight into their history.

It was a good overview, though one of the commenters mentioned a book that analyzes it more in-depth. Might make for an interesting read. Some of this was covered in Steven Kent's book.
