Bahaha, oh now it makes sense. No joke, I really thought marurun had multiple personality disorder. Edited my response now too.

Haha yeah, sorry about that, I completely forget that I can edit posts of other people and the button is right next to the quote button. I mis-clicked. Stupid trackpad.

Your response was highly entertaining though and can understand how confusing it all got. I'm just gonna go and edit my post so that it makes a little more sense.

At its best AHL was the polar opposite of counterstrike - it rewarded aggression, not hyper-conservative play. If you were skilled, you could fly into a room and headshot multiple enemies before you hit the ground! To say nothing of the satisfaction of a pointblank sawed-off shotty kill. I wish Valve would have hired these guys and made a Source version, a la Day of Defeat.

Love AHL. Even have it mentioned in my Steam profile as one of my favorite HL1 mods. The Specialists is a pretty good substitute for it though.

I played HLDM and AHL competitively for years, I got hideously good at dodging shots and clearing entire rooms of players before they even knew what hit them. In fact some of the skills learned from AHL/DM is really handy for playing Hunter in L4D. Skilljumping can get you stupidly high in some levels which pretty much guarantees max damage when you pounce somebody from high up on the map. Especially if you manage to knock them off of something which adds to total damage.

My mistake. It was QuakeWorld derived with enhancements from the Quake 2 engine. It still came out after Quake 2.

Also, I never said I didn't like HL. I just wasn't as into it. And while HL was MUCH better at telling a story than Unreal was, Unreal was a much more technically advanced game from the standpoint of the graphics renderer. I suspect the scripting engines were comparative. It also didn't help that the Unreal story was just kinda blah while HL's story was much more interesting.

AHL is one I never really got into. My friends all play HLDM (which I was awful at until a right around HL2 came out and it clicked), CS (which I still am rubbish at), Science and Industry (which is the best parts of CS and TFC put together), Natural Selection (sadly stopped playing it over the past few years but use to be an impressive skulk and pistoleer - even Flayra commented on my groups skulk rush ability), and my baby TFC (Once you get to the point you can triple or quad conc, people just start banning you).

Half-Life 1 is still my most played lan PC game for those few reasons alone, and I have barely scratched the surface of Half-Life Mods. Heck at the last lan party I attended we played more HLDM than we did Gears of War 2 (and they arefairly Gears fans). There is just something elegant about the simplicity of Half Life.

Maybe I will compose a dvd of Half-Life, mods, and maps for lan parties. Any suggestions?

Can't think of anything else noteworthy that you haven't already mentioned. DM:Classic is pretty fun. Think Quake:DM but with HL physics and graphics and you're relatively in the ball park.

I can never get enough of HLDM, all the default maps are ingrained into my psyche and my crouch jump is honed to perfection. I remember playing HLDM at college with a few people who said they 'knew the game pretty well' I beat them all 25 kills to 0 without dying once. They just couldn't keep track of me once I started bouncing around the rooms crossbowing them in the face.

I never was a big crossbow fan, always favored the shotgun or magnum. Still, some awesome memories of setting elaborate traps with laser mines and jumping over rockets. Good times.

Yeah double shot shotgun was lethal some times. I preferred bow for the one shot kills. Always had my shotgun on standby just in case. I found the magnum more cumbersome than useful.

More games need a remote controlled rocket launcher. Some of the most satisfying kills came from that little sod. Especially with how much you could bend it sometimes.
