Do you still owe back rent, and if so, how much?

So I go back home
I tell the landlady I got a job, I'm gonna pay the rent
She said yeah, I said oh yeah
And then she was so nice
Loh' she was lovy-dovy
So I go in my room, pack up my things and I go
I slip on out the back door and down the streets I go
She a-howlin' about the front rent, she'll be lucky to get any back rent
She ain't gonna get none of it

I was going to drop it off but my landlord was up the beach and won't be back until later today. Thankfully I'm only working until 7 tonight so I can drop it off after work.

So you'll have all your rent paid? Meaning if you didn't get your switch and games you'd be well suited to move within the next few months?

Turns out my getting off early from work was actually my brother asking my boss so he and our parents could surprise me with dinner at Nino's Pizza. My mom got me two pairs of lounge pants.

I also got a T-shirt I pre-ordered months ago, based on the artwork of horror manga master Junji Ito.

Somebody mentioned Playboy in the random thoughts thread and it reminded me of my Grandmother, who passed away earlier this year.

That could use a kiss of context.

My Grandmother was my favorite person in the world. Still kinda is. The stories she told were all true and yet something else that seemed almost painted with a brush of exaggeration, but if anything she downplayed all details. The story of how her and my Grandfather fell in love would make a blockbuster of a movie. Her best friend growing up was Al Capone's niece, and she had plenty of run ins with "Uncle Al"/"Uncle Fonz". Her father was a WWI vet who was a Chicago detective who also had meetings with Al and had a bathtub gun operation of his own. My Grandparents were regulars at the Playboy Club in Chicago, so there is the meaty context I needed to supply.

She joined the church triumphant (that's a religious way of stating she kicked the proverbial bucket) earlier this year in her son's home, surrounded by family. Due to covid and my Aunt having a serious case of MS, no one outside of Chicago was able to attend the burial. I still haven't seen my family in Chicago and I have zero closure on this, which has been looming over me like angry pencil strokes over Peanut's Pig-Pen.

I've got a vacation coming up, and I'm going to Pine Knolls Shore.
I do not enjoy the beach one lick. It's hot, hotels are expensive, and sitting in heat being burnt is not my idea of a good time. The fact my wife wants a beach vacation and to not visit my family (we see her family ALL the goddamned time) drives me nuts. But, if she were here my Grandmother would remind me that a happy wife means a happy life.

...actually, she wouldn't buy into that malarkey. What she would do is remind me that all this means is that I get to pick the next destination for our next vacation and to not be a sour-puss. And I won't be a sour-puss.

The aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores is so much fun. I’m not sure if you still need a reservation, but regardless, it’s worth a trip. Very NC-focused with a lot of great exhibits, and if you go on a sunny day, there probably won’t be that many people there.

While you’re in the area, you should also grab a shrimp burger at Big Oak Drive-In:

I’m not sure they have the very best shrimp burger in the state, but it’s very, very solid. (El’s Drive-In in Morehead City is also really good.)

Also, if you head off the island, you can go hiking in the Croatan National Forest. Despite the fact it’s mostly flat, sandy pine, it’s still pretty cool. Ft. Macon at the very eastern tip of the island is a lot of fun too.

(Just FYI…my family keeps a place up the road in Emerald Isle, and although I visit all the time, I’m not a big beach person either. Accordingly, I’ve found a lot of fun non-beach stuff to do out there. If you need any more tips, let me know!)

I don’t mind the 9 hour drive for a shrimp burger.
I own too many hoodies jackets hoodies and DS games and I’m not ashamed!

Shrimp burger sounds awesome. I heard that restaurant in BK Win Son Bakery has a legit shrimp burger. I tried the fried chicken sandwich when I checked it out, which was great. Maybe that could be a compromise spot if you can't pencil in the road trip? Lol.

What about Takis-encrusted chicken tenders? I made some with Fuego Takis (chili lime) ages ago and they were amazeballs! Wonder if next time for the flour if I should use corn flour and add chili lime seasoning to the flour.
