You hear the music, but you are not listening to it.
You are stuck on the idea that fighting game soundtracks NEED to be epic, and crushing. Lighten up, enjoy the cool refreshing breeze. It's a fun game, with a fun soundtrack.

Maybe you are missing something.

And maybe someday you'll understand how some music is fine on it's own, but terrible when combined with an inappropriate visual element.

I mean I love the shit out of The Doors, but put their music in Guilty Gear X, and let's see what happens to all the fun and intensity of that game.
I don't consider the combination to be terrible or inappropriate in the least.

For the record, Guilty Gear X would go great with Riders on the Storm, Strange (for Christ sake!), and probably many other great Doors songs.

Who decides "what goes"? and why?

Being more openminded when it comes to artistic direction is much more rewarding and interesting to me

Open-minded does not mean to be oblivious to faults.

Wha WHA? Yes, I do expect a fighting game soundtrack to be epic. WHY ON EARTH WOULD I WANT TO BE CALM WHEN THIS SHIT IS GOING ON?

A fighter soundtrack, regardless of the pace of the actual fighter, has a few obligations. One of those is keeping the player on their toes. Related to that, the music should not cause a player to yawn, or loss focus when they hear music that has no business in a fighting game.
For the record, Guilty Gear X would go great with Riders on the Storm, Strange (for Christ sake!), and probably many other great Doors songs.

I tried to put the two together and... got nothing. Sorry. They just don't go together. They go together about as well as Kanye West in Metal Slug.

The deal is, I coulda taken this wanna-be Miles Davis music if it only affected one stage, and that stage would have to take place in a lounge. To have sad attempts to redo "Cool Jazz" in a cave, a circus and a swamp makes no damn sense at all.

Another reason that I loved MvC1's soundtrack was because the music really fit each of the characters. When you hear any of those themes, you can feel that the music is somehow describing the character. MvC2 had none of that. The music is completely out of place, and doesn't fit any part of the game.

In CvS2, I didn't especially like this song: however, at least they had the song playing right outside a lounge, where it somewhat fits!

You must not be hearing what I am hearing. For that I feel sorry for you. I believe that you are missing out.

Ok, so maybe The Doors isn't that good for a fighting game, but how about Queen? Killer Queen, Bicycle Race, and Don't Stop Me Now.

Sol Badguy's favorite band is Queen. But no, it would not work.

Maybe try Queen's Ogre Battle? That's about the only one I could think of.

My biggest issue with "I Wanna Take You For A Ride" was the repetition. If they had just added a little more to it, I would have found it less annoying, particularly because of its tendency to get stuck in one's head might have dropped. But the repetition of lyrics over and over again really got to me.

all this instant writeoff of combinations as if by an expert in what goes and what doesnt (which is pretty laughable in its self) is ridic.

the7k - so you quickly played the songs I mentioned while playing a game, obviously with it already decided in your head that it wouldn't work... and got nothing? Wow, what a surprise? lol

and I just got done blasting through a few levels of metal slug 3 over Kanye West's (who I am not a fan of) "Stronger". Worked wonders, if you wondered.

Really, Any quick decision of [fill in the blank with any band] doesn't go with [fill in the blank with any game] must not be very well thought out... unless the chosen group is just insanely one-dimensional.

It's what everyone expected. I don't see any of these idiot blogs mentioned how its proper widescreen now, something which very few port jobs support. They usually just go with border graphics. Looks like the game will handle much better with the additional space to run around in. The trailer even did a split screen effect when the fighters separated too far. Wonder if that's in-game? Not sure if that's good or bad.
