Can't help but notice the mammoth screens on modern phones. The Samsung Galaxy smallest offering is 6.1 and the largest near 7 inch! Its hard to operate these one handed. The problem is that most people seem to like them and demand them especially in Asia. I think the reason being that people are starting to see their smart-"phones" as their main "pc". They use it for everything and no longer need a tablet, laptop, or desktop. They actually do work and watch movies on their "phone" so they prefer a larger screen. I think they are using it more like an in pocket laptop.
Not my thing, as I find the "mobile" app and web experience too limiting. I want a smart "phone" not mini tablet. I remember people making fun of these calling them "phablets". Which side are you on?

Every time a company tries to market a smaller phone they don't do well. Look at Apple's latest mini offering. It's not actually THAT mini, really, but it's been a bottom seller in their phone lineup. Maybe it's still too large for the crowd that want smaller phones, but I don't know.

Nice up to a point. I like my iPhone 8 Plus, which - since I don't have tiny hands - is more comfortable for me to use than the non-Plus one (and has a bigger battery, etc).
I think much beyond that starts to get a little limiting due to pocket sizes and so on. Bezels shrinking and so on can mean designs cram a larger screen into the same-ish size, but the push for folding screens is probably more where things'll go. Most people probably don't want to be slipping an iPad Mini in their pocket.

I'm in that smaller phone camp and don't care for phones with larger displays. I live in an area where I normally would do a significant amount of walking, so I like to have something that can easily fit in my pocket.
I also have a home laptop which I'm able to work from and browse the web on, so I'm not interested in having an all in one device. I'm behind with my phone model, as I currently have an older iPhone SE bu it's the perfect size for a phone IMO.

The mini is a lie. The screen is 5.4 which is larger than than the iphone7/8 4.7inch. Its not mini its actually larger. The weird thing is that I don't recall people complaining of the tiny screen size when phones where 4 and 4.7 in size. Everybody seemed excited with them and they ran the same apps we have today. Browsers, instagram, email, and the rest. I am really surprised by the direction people are going at. I really do think they just chose to make the cellphone the all in one device albeit being the crippled one compared to a pc.
No way I am going to reserve airplane tickets or do e-banking on a cellphone.

I don't even get people who opt for iPad Pros for work. If they get something like the Macbook Air or Surface, its just as portable and is a full fledged computer. I can only see it for people who actually use a stylus.
I highly encourage you to get the SE2 if you are looking to keep the same design. I got it over iphone 7 and it feels like the same phone with a supercharger installed. You also save at least $300 over the 12 mini.

I think even the current 6 and 6.7 inch phones are too big for pockets.

I totally do banking on my phone, but that's because my bank provides a rather full-featured app that allows me to do so easily and safely.

I use my phone for work in the the field to install remote devices on our network/website so I prefer large displays. My personal phone is an S10 while my work phone is a pixel 4. I use my own phone almost always because the display is a tad larger and easier to read while programming equipment.

I still rock my iPhone 5 .. perfect size for a portable device. I will have to upgrade soon. I can't run all the apps I want to run. The phone is still powerful enough to run most of the ones I want, they just wont work on an older iOS.

More than anything, I hate the curved edge and curved corner displays. I also don't like cutouts. All of my content has square corners and edges. I don't ever want to have to feel the edges and beyond to make my phone function. I thought I was fine with a smaller display, but to mitigate this, and still have my favorite company's flagship phone I found that Samsung made a Galaxy S10e with only curved glass - the video is only bordered by curved edges and not under any curved glass; All visible display is under flat gorilla. There is one cutout - tiny selfie cam, but the display is much taller than 16x9 and in the settings you can make apps utilize only the inside of the mess with no problems selectable black borders! The main problem is I'm already used to a larger display, and have been making spelling errors due to the lack of real-estate on the keyboard.
