Often a matter of if it's a collection thing, or just playing the game. Valkyrie Profile (since you'd mentioned it) is cheaper for PSP, where $65 can still find you a sealed copy, and it was also ported to iOS/Android in 2018, so maybe that version can play well on a TV.

Or just be fine with finding an ISO and emulating. For all the good, legit ways to get older games today, there are still going to be the ones that aren't available yet, or won't be for whatever reason.

At this point it’s becoming a collection thing, as much as I hate to admit it. Since gaming is pretty much all I have anymore, I’m just getting more and more to the point where I can’t self justify anything less than getting the exact version I want. I’ve tried sticking to emulation, but I either have trouble staying interested or just want the game more at that point.

I've had this issue with emulation too, I seem to get distracted by other applications on the computer. I like to test games out through emulation, but when it comes to actually sitting down and playing through a game, I much prefer having an original copy and playing on the console. I seem to focus much better that way for whatever reason.

I’m reeeeeally kicking myself looking at the prices on this stuff. Looking at the PS1/2 stuff I know will cost, I’m looking at about...3k? PS1 I can give up and emulate, but PS2 not so much.

Well, I’ve decided I’ll buy what I can on PSN and emulate the rest. I’ll just slowly start building my collection bit by bit. Hopefully that way I won’t spend a ton of money on a game I end up not liking.

Wikipedia states oXbox had custom 733 MHz CPU/233MHz GPU/graphics and PS2 had 294.912 MHz CPU/150MHz GPU/graphics.
I don't recall Xbox was that much more powerful when playing games. Maybe I understand those numbers wrong?

Its even more with N64 which had 93MHz CPU meanwhile PS1 had 33Mhz CPU. N64 looks like it had a dedicated graphic processor too.

I weirdly enjoy finding the original receipt in an older game I've acquired. I find it interesting to see when and where the game was originally purchased.

The Xbox was much more powerful than the PS2. Dramatically so. The PS2 was not actually that powerful a machine. Also, mhz rarely tell the whole story.

The N64, PS1, and Saturn all had dedicated graphics processors, in a sense. None of them relied solely on the CPU for graphical calculations. PS1 had the GTE (Geometry Transform Engine) and the Saturn had the VDP1 and VDP2.

Yeah, I've been doing that too. It's a lot of fun to stumble upon them years later.

Really? heaven't noticed or don't remember. Which games show this the most? All I remember is Ninjai Gaiden Black being so smooth and fast, but I thought the graphics were doable or near same on ps2/ngc.

Ninja Gaiden, yes. Forza, Doom 3, Half Life 2 are all examples of stuff the PS2 really couldn’t handle.
