That's true. Another example is the GOG version of Realms of the Haunting is the US release, not the superior European release. You can effectively patch the game to be the EU version, but it's an annoying hoop to jump through.

I can see the perspective of the hardcore gamer that wants the original thing but usually I am happy to get the better updated version with better graphics. Sometimes I want to play the thing as it was(Doom) and other times I just want to play the fun game and would be happy to get the better looking graphics (Age of Empires,MGS).

Chances are if you're going to GOG to download a game from 1989, you are that hardcore audience.

I must be that hardcore gaming weirdo if I preferred the EGA version of Quest for Glory with the text parser over the more modernized VGA remake

My cat jumps on my lap so much that it's practically impossible to play wii games. If I kick her off she jumps back on. I'll be lucky to get 30 minutes of wii playtime a day. Shame because I'm really into Muramasa: The Demon Blade.

It's not retro because that's not what retro means. Old != retro.

I have been down this pedantic path so many times but nobody will listen to me. Apparently “old games” just doesn’t have the same appeal.

"I love retro music like Kanye West and Katy Perry, and retro movies like Harry Potter and The Dark Knight!" said nobody ever.
