General Error - SQL Error
General Error - SQL Error
Logged in this morning around 6:15 - when I get most of my Racketboy reading done for the day. I'm looking through backlogged whatever pages and then my Mozilla browser freezes and gives me this. This is a host problem right? Too many people at 6:20 am!?

Re: General Error - SQL Error
Yep, that would be correct. It's nothing too serious it's just the SQL server's config only allows a finite amount of users to connect at once. You can remove the limit but you'd have to have access to the SQL config files on the server.

It happens sometimes. The easiest way to fix it is to simply refresh after a few minutes.

Re: General Error - SQL Error
To be exact, the sql server is a database. Temporary "users" access the sql database through the server. The process of accessing takes an amount of work.
Every time someone clicks a link navigating around the site, it takes up a user slot. When you set up the server you define a number of user slots. Only so many jobs can be performed at the same time.
So, if say: you, me, and Niode all happen to click a link at the same time... that's 3 users accessing, taking up 3 slots. Once we've loaded those pages we are dropped from the pool freeing it up for other users. The limit is usually pretty high, let's throw arbitrary number like 150 out there. But a site like this can get pretty active.
So you happened to just click at the same time as 100 other people, or bots, looking at the forums or the blog or images, or whatever. It's all a matter of fitting so many people through a small doorway. The more people, the more likely you'll have to wait your turn.
Literally 10 seconds later, the error wouldn't fire because it's just a coincidence you clicked at the same time. Now if it's happening consistently... that means we have a LOT of users online at the same time. Racketboy ain't no Amazon, his server does have limits, and those limits are very low in comparison to say MySpace or something. And shit how often do you get errors on "MySpace"??? I get em' all the damn time.
