Coronavirus pandemic - how are you affected?

Public libraries are all handling things differently, but in my area they are open for pickup. Basically, you request and then go pick up. The buildings themselves are not open to the public. Some university libraries are still closed, but some are open to campus traffic only. We will have some level of in-person traffic in the fall (late August), but on-site staffing will be minimal. I will mostly likely be working from home most days.

Pretty disgusted with what's been going on. Had to close the stores for months while elected officials dicked around and did nothing. Instead of ramping up testing and contact tracing so we could all go back to our lives safely while those who are sick quarantined, the country was told to just reopen. "We've done almost nothing whatsoever for the last three months, guess we can just go back to normal now!" People are getting sick all around me and it's looking like we're either going to be closing again or just letting millions die. All of this could have been avoided in the first place if flights had been restricted early, people returning to the US had been quarantined... and barring that, if the shutdown had been used to isolate and quarantine the sick, we wouldn't be in this mess right now. But after botching the reopening they actually think they're going to send my kid back to school? You'd have to be blind not to see what happened when we reopened! That's just going to happen all over again when the schools reopen. Who's going to take responsibility when that happens? Where are the adults in this government? Why are they acting like spoiled stupid children?

Anyone getting annoyed yet with mask complaints?

My favorite is when someone does something stupid in a public space and blames it on the mask. "I can't see with this mask on!" Which is a funny thing to say because it's usually by the people who only cover their mouth and not their nose. Like, THEY'RE mask is further away from their eyes than it should be, and yet somehow it's responsible for them not being able to see?

Another thing I've heard a few times, which is what the people who "can't see" really mean to say, is that they can't think with the mask on. Or wearing the mask distracts them in some way. Which also baffles me because it's not like these masks are soaked in funny gas or something, how do they alter your brain? And if wearing a mask breaks your concentration then does wearing a hat also break your concentration? Or a scarf?

^maybe those people that "can't see with a mask on" are related to those lizards that taste the air with their tongue. With a mask on they can't find their way!

I'm assuming most people in charge aren't being forced to travel to the office/public locations, aren't sending their kids/grandkids to public school, and are having their groceries delivered. Sounds pretty spoiled to me!

Most of them aren't going to be sending their kids back to school at all. They're canceling their own conventions because they know the real danger. It's obvious that just ignoring the problem isn't working, but they're like Flanders' parents, "We've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas."

@ziggy - Good to see you again! I've had way less time to be online and posting on forums since opening our first store, and it's only gotten worse and worse until recently. Now that we have an online store, I've been given time at work to *cough*spam*cough* post around the internet to try to get our URL out there. And since I've missed this place, I figured this would be the first forum I started hanging out at again. Now to just figure out a way to make games in RPG MV while at work and most of my time issues will be gone!

Most schools in Texas are going remote for the first 3 weeks through the beginning of September, then will reportedly stage kids back I'm phases. 40% in my area have opted for remote through the first semester so the school will be at ~60% even in that last stage.

I wish that our local school could at least do the first three weeks remote only, but too many kids don’t have Internet access for that option. Ours is doing it where you can choose remote or in school as you need, which is decent but I know they’ll be at least half capacity from day 1. I’m worried how that will work out for my Nieces.

It is, and I think people have mostly done OK staying away from some of the more political elements. I mean, the topic is about how our own lives have been affected, not about what we believe. So in that sense it is a mostly factual discussion.

At my public library, we're open regular hours again, but we're not fully OPEN-open. We have a checkout station at a window next to the entrance that's available any time we're open so people can pick up books that they're placed on hold without coming into the library. We've been allowing a limited number of people to come in to browse new books or use computers by appointment for 30 minutes at a time, but that's only been available for a few hours each day: next week it will be available from an hour after opening to an hour before closing and they'll be able to browse all of the adult books.
Masks are required and it hasn't really been a problem so far. There's one staff member that wants to remove their mask when they talk on the phone but after saying something they seem to have gotten better. We've had a few patrons we've had to tell that their mask has to cover their nose, but they've complied. We have a new hand sanitizer station by the entrance and several plexiglass windows set up around desks.

I'm still nervous about going out and I see a lot of folks who don't wear masks, which scares me a bit. But I'm slowly approaching the point were I'm willing to go to a store for fun things rather than essentials, maybe in a couple weeks. I'm in New York were rates have been steadily low, but I'm still afraid of another spike in the future.
