That's not necessarily a high bar to reach, but yes, it's miles (kilometers) better than The Gorgon

I still enjoy it. I also wanna do a new adaptation of the original concept album, culling elements from the film, album and Broadway adaptation.

I could see Zach Callison as Tommy, and Patti Lupone as The Specialist.

I actually really like Tommy a lot. I don't have the full original concept album, but I do have a cast recording and saw the touring musical a couple decades ago. I also saw the movie and enjoyed the recorded live LA concert from the 1989 Who reunion tour which featured Phil Collins as Uncle Ernie, Patti LaBelle as the Acid Queen, Steve Winwood as the Hawker, Elton John as the Pinball Wizard, and Billy Idol as Cousin Kevin. That last one contains my favorite versions of many of their songs. I think the songs are the strongest part of the stage show, and the latter half of the story is the weakest part of the film and stage versions. The first half, with Tommy as a child, however, up until he is "cured", is the strongest part of the story. I always remember those story elements and songs most strongly and fondly. The latter portions kind of fall out of my memory much more easily.

If you haven't seen the 1989 live recording, go track it down. The guest singers are fan-damn-tastic in their roles on the songs.

New write-up of the week:

Night Tide

I don't know about 'terror', but it can definitely claim 'strange'

A movie about a naive sailor and his maybe-kinda-sorta mermaid who maybe-kinda-sorta wants to kill him, starring a very young Dennis Hopper in his first feature film. It's listed as a horror film, but it feels more like a mystery thriller. Very pretty and atmospheric, but it's the kind of movie that asks a lot of questions and doesn't deliver on most of the answers, so it won't be for everyone.

Yea it is a bit on the artsy side. Curtis Harrington was known for making surreal/experimental films in the past which are quite awesome imo, and he was involved in the first wave of American Queer films. Weird how he changed to horror films as his career went on.

New write-up of the week:

Q: The Winged Serpent

An Americanized version of a kaiju film that gets the fun monster bits right but kinda dropped the ball when it came to a coherent plot. Which is too bad, cause the acting, especially from the main character, is pretty damn good. Still ends up being pretty fun though.

I love Q. Especially how nobody seems to see a giant freaking lizard bird flying over NYC.

Speaking of NYC, I recently watched Working Girl. Pretty good.
