Unlocking Sonic and Ganon were my goals for Super Smash Bros. Brawl so i consider it finished at this point, grinding the third area of PSO every now and again and actually beating Contra 4 on easy was all i've done for the challenge this week, my plans for contra 4 is to get to the point i can beat consistently on easy and then try normal.
It's a great game but somewhat "slow"? Might be all my muscle memory from the Contra III days tough

Seems like picking Serious Sam 2 over Half-Life 2 might have been the way to go after all, Serious Sam 4 is getting a trailer latter today and it will be a good way to build hype :D

No, Serious Sam 2 isn't a classic. Half-Life 2 definitely is. You're better off with HL2.

Alright...I am going to get rolling on this. Here’s my list:

Donkey Kong Country*
Donkey Kong Country 2
Donkey Kong Country 3
King’s Field
Metal Gear (NES)
Silent Hill
Streets of Rage*
Streets of Rage 2*
Streets of Rage 3
Super Baseball 2020

I originally proposed Resident Evil 3, but I jumped the gun and beat that last month. I have replaced it with Silent Hill. I also added Super Baseball 2020 since it takes place this year. Finally, the asterisks denote replays, which somewhat contradicts the point of the challenge, but..uh...whatever. If I’m going to run these series, I’m going to start at the beginning.

PSO's third boss has been defeated but it seems that i forgot one of the three keys needed to open the last area, some backtrack is due to the weekend XD.

Mine was an interesting area, amazingly futuristic in area 1 but very ominous by the end of area 2, the enemies were the best IMO to this point, the leaping predator, the mech type and zombies robots were a blast and very unique.
I'm loving it.

Final Fantasy V does everything III wanted to do but better, but judged on it's own merits I still think it holds up well. V is one of my favourites, so being beaten by one of the best isn't really a sleight on the game!
I can see why people would have issues with the difficulty but every other aspect is a refinement on the first two I think. Perhaps it was people who played it post FFIV and found it a bit rough? It wouldn't have had a huge western footprint until it got the emulation/translation treatment. Either way, I liked it a lot.

I've also made quite a lot of way into FFV. I'm on world 3 or the merged world and have knocked out three of the four sealed temples. Really enjoying the job system, it's been fun mixing and matching abilities. I have made so combos that are perhaps not the wisest (summoner/thief) but I'm muddling through. I still think there's some element of FFV that is a bit woolly to me, something that stops me from really engaging with it. I think it's likely a combination of weird pacing and the lack of many party members. Hard to say exactly though.

Metal Gear should be an interesting playthrough, I loved it as a kid, but it is one of the few nes games I never revisited as an adult. I remember playing it when I was like 9 and thinking how cool the stealth mechanics and various items were, it obviously pales in comparison to metal gear solid but you will definitely see the origins of the solid series in that game.

Still plugging away at Fire Emblem 4. Yesterday I played for about 3 hours, which was just enough time to finish challenging the arena in chapter 4. The goal for the weekend is to try and clear chapters 4 and 5 and finally move onto the second half of the game. It's a long weekend as it's a bank holiday on Monday, so I should have a bit more time to put into it.

I might also try and start up another game alongside it though, for those days I don't feel like spending 3-5 hour sessions on an SRPG  I'm thinking I might look to make a start on Turok as my other title.

AJ, what's your final list looking like?
I have never even played a SRPG, almost did this year with Valkyria Chronicles on Steam.

If you want to dip your toes in SRPGs but just really aren't sure about them, Shining Force II is the game to do it. It's challenging but not cruel, it has lots of personality, and it's just a great production overall.
