Pixel Art Skateboard

Post by skate323k137 »

I won this longboard in a distance race this past weekend, I fell twice and still took 4th of 30. I knew I'd have to heal for a few days and I wanted to do something somewhat original on the top of the board. After realizing most of my ideas were already done, I figured I wanted to do something video game themed. Problem is, fine details don't always stay stuck to the board, so being a shmup fan I decided on a Space Invaders theme. This took a while, it's basically cutting up adhesive-backed sandpaper to make the pieces, and the board isn't flat in any dimension. it's concave side to side and front to back. To get the full effect don't look at the picture too large, or step back from your monitor. My camera makes the seams in the black look worse than they are, but I may hit them with a marker anyway.

thanks man.

usually I do ride longboards, our roads suck and I don't really ride ramps much anymore. I own enough parts for probably a dozen skateboards/longboards but only 8-10 are usually assembled. I've got everything from cut down normal decks to several 40+ inch boards. I also race slalom skateboarding, where you dodge cones while riding down a hill. Those boards are comparable to normal decks (flatter in the front though) and sit on longboard type wheels and narrow loose trucks for maximum speed and maneuverability.

they're mostly for cruising/getting around. I push with both legs, kinda like batting both ways, so I can get pretty far. you're not going to kick flip the thing, but you can do things like walk up and down it while "cross stepping", spin step, little stuff like that. You can also ride downhill and slide on them with appropriate gloves.

I also forgot to mention the whole board is gripped, the invaders are in clear grip tape. you can kind of cheat those since nobody will notice small gaps in the clear.
