Thank You Very Much!noiseredux wrote:Markies, I always love reading your posts. Good stuff.
Next week will be my final game. I will have finally added all of the games that I have squirrled away throughout the years.
I will be starting fresh in 2020 and won't be buying as much. Hopefully!

I added Midtown Madness 3 for the Microsoft XBOX this evening!
For at least the last 5 years, I've been going to a Pinball Arcade about an hour out of town. We usually go every other Saturday and pay $10 to play to our hearts content.
They have a guy there that works on the Arcade Games that we have gotten to know. He has created several MAME machines and Hacked Xbox's that play all sorts of games and they are great way to rest your fingers from playing Pinball.
A few years ago, they bought an old Cruis'n Machine and the guy used his hacked XBOX to turn into a giant driving machine. I was really interested as you could play all these racing games on an actual racing machine. Besides arcade games, he also put in original XBOX games and I began to test those out.
Midtown Madness 3 was a game I've never heard of, but I began playing it one night. I think it was the second mission, you drive around Washington DC in a 1950s Pink Cadillac and I was instantly sold. You have to do these missions while driving around Washington DC or Paris France. It seemed really fun and something I should pick up to play on my XBOX.
Well, I saw a slightly rough copy that I could spruce up for $5 at the Convention and I decided now was a perfect time to dive in!

26. Mega Man 7 (SNES)

I added Mega Man 7 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System this afternoon!
Back at Missouri Game Con in August, I had purchased three games already and I had already two official loops. It looked like I was done for the day and I was more interested in the odds and ends that I would find on the convention floor.
My list that I create for the Con had one game for each console. I have 9 consoles, so I had space for one more game on my note card. That spot is always saved for my pricier game. I always choose a game that is a bit more expensive that I'd be willing to buy if I found it. For many years, it was Ducktales 2, but I bought that in 2018.
This year, I found two copies of my expensive game, Mega Man 7. One, they were asking about $160 for it. It was bit beat up as the condition of the car was very sad and questionable. Another vendor was selling it for $125. The only imperfection was a slight tear of the label on the top near the 7. It was something minor that I could ignore. Besides that, the cart looked absolutely immaculate.
I offered the vendor 6 $20 bills and I then had a copy of Mega Man 7 on the SNES. I have played the game before on the Anniversary Collection for the PS2, so I know the difficulty going into the game. But, more importantly, I am now a Mega Man 8 away for a complete physical collection of the original series Mega Man games.
And that is it for 2019. I am 100% caught up as I no longer have any games squirreled away. Everything that I own is now on my Backlog and I feel good to be truthful. It felt bad to bend the truth a little, so I'm glad to come clean completely. I might add one more game later this month, but if not, I will see everybody in the 'Games Acquired 2020' thread!

Re: Games Acquired 2019
What do you do with the games before adding them to your backloggery, Markies?
Earlier in the year I had culled my backloggery of all the PC games I haven't beaten. Never have I wanted a batch delete function more; It was like 700 entries I had to delete one by one. I don't really care to take ownership of them like physical games, though, and it didn't really feel helpful for tracking what I actually have on PC, either. The GOG Galaxy 2.0 Beta, though, wow is that a godsend.

Re: Games Acquired 2019
So, for the longest time, I was completely honest with my Backloggery. Every game that I owned was added or immediately added after purchasing it.
However, right around 2016, I started loosing space in my apartment for all my games. I no longer had room to store all the games that I had bought. So, I kept them in the closet and I would slowly add them throughout the year. I never played them or did anything with them. They just stayed in my closet until it was time to add them.
This summer, I finally purchased a house and I have a dedicated bedroom for my game collection. I no longer had an excuse, so I began adding the backlog of games to my Backloggery.
Mega Man 7 was the last game that I purchased, so I am now completely caught up again. I really didn't like not being honest with my Backlog, but I couldn't stop buying games and my collection was bursting at the seams before I moved.

Re: Games Acquired 2019
I've been playing so much Game Pass that I told myself I wouldn't buy any more games this year (not that I've bought terribly many to begin with, thank goodness), but AJ's Chameleon Twist 2 review, combined with talking to him on Slack about it, convinced me to go pick up Chameleon Twist 1 that I knew a Book Off near me had. It apparently has quite a bit of altered and improved content for the Japanese version, so 290 yen was a price just right for it ^w^
BUT ALSO, while I was there, I glanced at the other stuff they had. Today was not the day for Mario Golf or Mario Tennis for similarly cheap prices. Something would have to be really calling to me to get me to grab it. AND THEN IT CALLED TO ME. As if sent by Chibi-Robo super-fan AJ himself, I see a complete copy of the 2nd Chibi-Robo game for DS (the Japan-exclusive one) there on the shelf! For only 1500 yen, less than half the price of the one other copy I've seen in-person (and that was a loose copy!). Needless to say, I picked that up too
The attract mode for that thing is really weirdly long (a good few minutes) and I just watched it, mouth literally agape, for the whole duration. Compared to Park Patrol, this REALLY is a genuine sequel to the first Chibi-Robo on DS if there ever could be one. Between this and Shovel Knight: King of Cards, I think I'm gonna be juuuust fine for stuff to do on my flights to and from America coming up later this month

27. Mr. Driller (SDC)

I added Mr. Driller for the Sega Dreamcast this evening!
One of the games that I discovered while playing the MAME arcade units up at the Pinball Place is Mr. Driller. It was a simple and easy to play Puzzle Game that I grew slowly addicted too. After a while, I realized that I had to have it and I went looking for a home console port.
I discovered a PS1 and a SDC port of the game, with the Dreamcast being the better of the ports. With my backlog finally updated and my Dreamcast Unfinished section looking a bit small, I was finally able to go out and purchase the game. I have wanted this game for months now, so I'm finally happy to own it.
NOW, I am done adding or buying games in 2019. I'm going to take the rest of the year off and play some old favorites. I will start purchasing games again in 2020 after I beat a few of them first.

And thus the year ends. Bought a lot, played a lot (but not as much as I'd have liked). There was quite a lot of newer games acquired this year, which surprised me, but a lot of them were also ports or retro-themed, so I guess I'm not too-too far off my usual.
My biggest and happiest splurge this go round was Conker. I finally found a local copy of the game that didn't look like it was beat to crap AND had the case and manual. The stickers on the box told me it had been an old Blockbuster game (may they rest in peace), so I was a little concerned about the condition of the disk. But the guy at the game store showed it to me before I bought it (it looked great) and even gave it a free buffing before giving it to me. So there's one higher priority game knocked off the want list. Feels good.
