DS Lite Dev Kit Slot 2 extension for old DS/GBA/GB Player?

Post by Mozgus »

I really doubt one exists but I might as well ask.

You see I have an EZ Flash 3-in-1 for my DS Lite. It lets me load GBA roms from the Slot 1 storage onto it and play them on the Lite.

As you can see, it's a half-tall cart so it sits flush with a DS Lite. However, on the old DS, any variation of the GBA, or the GameBoy Player for Gamecube, it cannot reach the contact pins inside without removing the plastic shell of the systems. I'd really like to be able to play these GBA roms on my Gameboy Player. I've confirmed that its compatible when I removed the plastic shell of the GB Player. It works fine. But when everything is put together, of course it cant reach.

So did anyone ever make a cheap extension bracket that hooks onto the cart and makes it as tall as a normal GBA cart? Either that, or I may just take a dremel tool to the GB Player and carve out a chunk of the shell so it can shove on in deep enough to connect.

I picked up a G6 Lite a while ago (though now it's on the fritz) and it had a shell extension. You could easily swap the PCB between the DS Lite shell and the DS Shell. I don't know how easy it would be to find one standalone, though.

I dont see a shell extension for that. I see it has a USB dongle that the cart plugs into.

That's the guy I've got. Shell extension on the left, three flavors of Lite on the right. Just unscrew and swap the PCB. As I mentioned, though, I have no idea where you might pick up a stand-alone shell extension.

You can try this. It's for the M3 DS Real, but it should be more or less the same thing. I got my M3 Real from that site too, so I know it's legit, and the extra case is really durable and easy to switch out. Hope that helps.

Yeah I dont want to have to exchange a board every time. I like how the 3-in-1 sits flush in my DS and don't want to lose that. I was just hoping for a tiny bridge that can slide in the GB Player and carry the connection from the cart to the socket.

I get what you want now. I'm pretty confident that no one makes a shell extension like that. I doubt there's a whole lot of demand, plus it seems like it would be hard to come up with a design that can be removed fairly easily but doesn't get stuck in your GBA.

With a little ambition and effort you could make one yourself.
