Yeah, I ended up actually looking it up last night, and boy was I upset.

I was looking at the moon changing colors, and thinking I needed to finish Gibel before it turned red, which I sort of did a couple times. I eventually realized it was just tied to his health, but I would never have thought to strike it.

Zangetsu doesn’t say anything about the moon in Japanese. He just says that Gremory should be nearby, with Gibel. It dawned on me, after the fact, why I should have known to do that, because “Zangetsu” is literally ‘moon cleaver.’

So now I’m in the ice caverns, just about at the end. Beat the hell out of the the two other bonus boss room dudes. I'm not anticipating much resistance from any of the bosses left at this point. They gon' die.
