Re: Pokemon Red vs. Fire Red
it dpends on how much pokemon you want to play. if you intend to try all the series, i'd say start with red, as it can be hard to get into after the improvements in the later ones.
if you just want to play a pokemon game, fire red is probably the better one.
its also worth noting that the pokemon carts for game boy (red blue yellow gold and silver) are known for having battery issues, so make sure you get one with a new battery so you can save. gold and silver are especially bad for it ¬_¬

Haven't checked the price on either of them but I would say FireRed for the simple fact it's GBA upgraded. You also get a side quest which adds only an additional hour or two of Pokefun but that would be my choice.
Plus, if you have a Micro, it looks pretty neat around to town. Unless, your going nostalgic and have a phat GB then I say original Red.

I'd have to say Firered as well. I played both the original and the updated one and although there will always be a "magic" to the first one it really is nice to get the better looking graphics, sound and that extra side quest. Go with Firered.
