SSF or not?

Post by closetQueen »

Thinking about downloading this BUT am an EMU noob. Been reading some of the problems i may foresee and am not sure I can handle the mess I'll make on my Laptop.
What i need here is prodding i guess.
Here's what i got:
Sony vaio running Vista/Pentium Dual 1.87GHz/2G Ram

Stupid Questions:
Do I just run games from the actual saturn discs?
Any recommended/favored controllers?

I do have a Saturn and love it, also love the idea of running games on my laptop.
prod me please 8)

SSF is a pretty simple put in the disc/mount the iso sort of app, so you shouldn't have many problems. Also read racket's new article on the homepage, it gives you most of the info you need.
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS

I love how even when the articles say, in bold, that it's by me or anyone else, people still give Racket the credit.

Lol, don't worry, I knew.

I have a USB controller, the Logitech Wingman. It's much like a Saturn controller.

Really... I always thought you were just an alias of Racket for when he doesn't feel like being his nice, kind, courteous self.
Damn, I never believed you were real... kinda like the Tooth Fairy.

Oh, and to reply to the original poster - You might want to check the specs of your laptop against the recommended ones for SSF. I know that my 2 year old laptop is nowhere near capable of running the games in a playable manner.

I'd say give it a shot to see how well it performs on your laptop. I don't think it'll make much of a mess. The SSF files just sit in its own directory, and it will play original Saturn discs or burns of the originals.

For me, SSF is a godsend - it allows me to play my Saturn games without having to boot up my Saturn all the time, which helps to prolong my poor Saturn's life. I have the USB Saturn controllers hooked up to the PC that's connected to my TV and it works great. :) I've been following the development of SSF since its early days and I am really impressed at how it's come along. I remember the chatter back in the day about how difficult it would be to emulate the Saturn decently and at a proper speed due to its complex architecture.
