Re: Games Acquired 2019
Attended the local gaming & anime con this weekend. Here's what I grabbed. I... I may have gone overboard with those visual novels.

You went overboard with the visual novels. No controversy here. But...did you not own F-Zero, Goldeneye, and SFII until today? Controversy!
Also...you bought Iris! I know someone in your house will appreciate that one.

Lies! One can never go overboard with visual novels.

Funny thing about those visual novels. The vendor was trying to sell them for something outrageous, like $40 each, last year. No one bought them. This year they were deeply discounted and I grabbed about a third of 'em, leaving the weird mecha stuff behind.
I love how Neon Genesis Evangelion is such an intense, deep, thought-provoking anime yet all the licensed games are mahjong, pachinko, or VNs about getting a girlfriend. Japan ftw!!!
And yeah, I couldn't resist that copy of Iris, and my daughter was indeed amused. Unfortunately, it's the one PS2 import I can't get working with Swap Magic. I'll test it with PCSX2 later, but man does that chug on my "old" PC.
I had a feeling someone would call me out for not already owning those carts. Street Fighter II: I've always had the Turbo and Champion Edition, never had a vanilla copy. GoldenEye: always played multiplayer back in the day with friends that had a copy. F-Zero: I have no excuse! I think my obsession with weird JRPGs has caused me to overlook some otherwise obvious classics.

Energy is... not a good game. If you brave it, I will honor your memory.

Re: Games Acquired 2019
It kind of seems like the PC-88 original, ASHE, might be a bit better than the PCE port. I've played a little bit of Energy before, and thought it seemed interesting, but it definitely took some time to get used to the controls, and the insane enemies.

Re: Games Acquired 2019
I know this sounds like one of those fake #wokekids stories, but as I was playing Energy last night my daughter muttered, "Wait, I thought this was supposed to be a 16-bit system..."
