Any one saw a movie from '97 called Pi?
It has high rating on IMDB but I am afraid its one of those "thought provoking" slow paced "artist" indie movies.

While we are at it, if you saw Primer, it got a lot of praise but seems like a mind-bending experience. Is it mind-bending as in Memento or is it a hard slow watch?

Pi is pretty good, better if you’re into math. I haven’t seen it since 1997, however.

Primer is great. Very thought provoking science fiction made on an extremely low budget.

Yeah, you're probably not going to enjoy Pi. It's more on the art side, even if I do remember it being pretty great.

Primer is a movie where stuff happens, and you're mostly following it, and then there's this big revelation and suddenly a bunch of stuff from before has new meaning. That said, while some stuff is ambiguous on purpose, other stuff is ambiguous on accident (it is EXTREMELY low budget).

I saw Dark Pheonix. I was pretty passable. Frankly, I don't know why this movie is getting so much hate. I mean... it's not a cinematic masterpiece or anything, but I'd call it about average for an X-Men film. It's not quite good as X-Men First Class or X-Men Days of Future Past, but it's a hell of a lot better than X-Men the Last Stand, or X-Men Origins Wolverine. Dark Phoenix deserves better reviews than it's gotten.

Some of the hate is that it was written by the guy who wrote X-Men The Last Stand.

As for me, Apocalypse pretty much ended my desire to watch more of these. It was just bland.

I stopped watching X-Men movies after X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Sometimes I think I ought to give First Class a shot, I *know* I should watch Logan... but I really just want to read the older comics.

I saw it years ago and loved it, but I don't think it would be your kind of movie. Thought provoking/slow-paced/artsy/indie movies are my jam.

As for the last movie I watched, it was Shaft (2000). Earlier this year I read about the new Shaft movie and realized I hadn't seen any of them. I watched the original and was bored to tears. But I gave this one a try and was impressed! I'd recommend it to folks who like 90s action movies; Samuel L. Jackson makes the character his own in a movie that's way more exciting and compelling than the original. Based on the bad reviews for the newest one, I'm not rushing out to see it, and after the letdown that was the first one, I'm not planning on seeing Shaft's Big Score or Shaft in Africa. But I'm glad I've seen some Shaft!

I felt that way for a while and settled on “meh” before mostly forgetting about it. Adaptation and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, however, are masterworks, and I think Synecdoche, New York likely just pales in comparison to them.
