AmazonBasics Xbox One Wired Controller?

Post by Ziggy »

AmazonBasics Xbox One Wired Controller:

Microsoft 4N6-00001 Xbox Controller + Cable for Windows:

I have a wired Xbox 360 controller that I'll sometimes use on the PC. I was thinking about getting an Xbox One USB controller because of the better D-Pad. I've noticed the AmazonBasics version for almost half the price of the official Microsoft controller. But is it as good? Or is it worth getting the real deal? Anyone here ever use one? Mind you, I've never used a real Xbox One controller. I've never even held one.

The Amazon one looks kind of gross to me, honestly.

I can tell you though, I played a lot of 360 for the first half of last gen and I liked the 360 controller a lot with no issues (well yeah, that d-pad is atrocious. I couldn't do all the Castlevania SoTN combos for some final achievement lol). But it's very hard to go back after using an Xbox One controller for PC gaming for years now. On paper, the changes look very subtle, but I can assure you the X1 controller definitely has the edge in the grip, triggers, d-pad, build quality, texture, and everything. I still don't think the d-pad is as good as classic controllers, but yeah. The X1 controller feels like they perfected the formula for the S design. Don't go cheap here and just go with the real deal. You won't be using that 360 controller ever again.

Of course, there's the premium Elite controllers, I haven't forked up enough to try those yet.

Might as well go official. It is 25% off right now (Jun 16th @ 7AM EDT).

AmazonBasics as a brand is a cheap option to make due, but I don't trust their peripherals anymore. I've had a mouse and keyboard stop working after less than a year of use.

I followed the Amazon link that was posted. It still shows it on sale.

Oh, you mean because it says...
List Price: $59.95
Price: $40.37 & FREE Shipping
You Save: $19.58 (33%)
Does that mean it's on sale? I didn't realize. To be honest, whenever I see "List price" with a strike-through number like that I always think it's just bullshit. Like "Oh, the MSRP is $129.99 but our price is only $99.99" and meanwhile everyone's price is only $99.99.

Well, I just got the official Xbox One USB controller and it's great. It doesn't look that different, but it's a noticeable improvement over the 360 controller. Also, I have the USB 360 controller (I prefer not to have to charge batteries) but it cannot function as a wireless controller. The Xbox One controller came with a USB cable, but it looks like I could get a battery back and Bluetooth dongle if I ever wanna use it wirelessly in the future, so that's neat.
