3DO will play backups without modding, I would have said buy http://www.eggmansworld.com/ 3dO set, but he stopped taking orders yesterday...
3DO has the best version of Road Rash.
and the only console version of Star Control II, IMHO one of the best games ever made

I have a model FZ1 just lying around my house if anyone is interested in it.
That's the one with the actual disc tray instead of the lid.
I like it a little, bought it for Alone in the Dark. You don't have to mod it to play backups and it doesn't use any proprietary video cords. Problem is there is a LOT of really REALLY bad games on the system. But it sure does have a few gems here and there... that and some games on it are interesting just to see how they compare to other systems versions of it (i.e. Jurassic Park is COMPLETELY different then any other version out there. It's further out there then the Sega CD one).

I'm positively surprised
I'm really surprised to see so many of you guys have a 3D0.
Are they really quite cheap on ebay or for some specific reason (you pointed out some of them, I guess) it's just more worth having one of these guys than say, the other "losing" consoles of that (particularly prolific) generation?
Any CD-i fans around, for example? I would think (based on nearly no facts) that an Atari Jaguar would be more interesting to own over these other machines.
I'm also personally biased on the Amiga CD32, but I doubt any of you guys have one or want one
Ivo.
