Tandberg XGA Monitor

Hello all. There is a state resell shop near me, and I will occasionally buy items from there. I picked up my PVMs from there, and about a year ago I picked up a Tandberg Multimedia television. I gave it to a friend because I figured he could use it more than me. It has vga inputs, and does PAL as well as NTSC. Well, I was there today and I saw another one for dirt cheap. I am thinking about keeping it, but I know next to nothing about this model. I can't find anything online about it, other than it is a re branded Sampo SME-27FDL5. Does anyone know anything about this monitor? Is it better than a PVM? I am just curious because I don't have room for 3 crt sets, so if this is an equal monitor I might as well sell it. I found the service manual with my Google-Fu. I don't know this site so download at your own risk. https://elektrotanya.com/sampo_sme-27fd ... nload.html I scanned the PDF with Malwarebytes and it seems to be ok.

Basically what you have is an 4:3 HD CRT television that can also accept VGA up to 1280x720 and 1024x768 (according to the manual). Light guns may not work with it but it is a nice find! If you are a big fan of Dreamcast or Xbox360 VGA output, I'd say it is a keeper. If the component input accepts 480p and 720p, it would also be great for PS2 and original Xbox titles that support those resolutions.

I'd never seen one in person so I can't really say whether it is better than a PVM. If you have PVMs then you probably have some RGB SCART cables. This guy won't accept 15khz RGB but you can easily convert that to component which it will accept. I think you will just have to do a side-by-side comparison and weigh the pros and cons.

Cool, thanks for the info! I think you are the same person that helped me when I got my first PVM. I wish I had space for this and the other two monitors I have, but I have to make a choice. It might be nice to have a 32bit down monitor and a 64bit up monitor. I asked the guys at the reseller place, they have another 5 or 6 of these, so I guess I can take my time deciding. The first one I got, the one I gave to my friend, had never been used before but this one has some minor wear and tear. I am using my Dreamcast now via rgb, but it might be nice to use it over VGA.

The only real problem is i have, like, no space to store this thing. I have a basement that has room for nothing, and my gaming room is a no go. So even just to test this thing out properly I will need to park it in my living room and mess around with it. No way am I lugging it upstairs, I did that solo with the other two monitors and I was sore for a week. But thank you again! Now I am very curious about this thing.

Yeah, the resell shop has a lot of their stuff, but I don't have need for most of it. They do have some pretty nice stands, the one on the first tv had Tanberg printed down the side, and it had space underneath for a ton of stuff.

If you are in the states, I urge you to hit up govdeals, and find out where your local shop is located. Most of them have items in the shop that are not on the website, and I got that 2950q PVM for 5 bucks. Cant beat that!
