I'm not ganna "cool" anything. Don't like it? Take it up with Nick. You clearly don't understand how trolling and flaming balance each other out. G4L is trolling pretty well here, and he gets props for that. But we must flame him. He's expecting it. Stop taking it so seriously.marurun wrote:Wow, that's pretty flame-worthy. And you're a mod, no less. Cool it. Enjoyment is ALWAYS subjective. And he never said HL2 wasn't a quality product, just that he wasn't getting as much of a kick out of it and doesn't understand why the praise is almost universal. I feel this way about Final Fantasy VII all the time, except I genuinely don't think it's as high quality as everyone says it is.
Wow, Half Life 2 is really not that impressive

To be honest, I'm kinda hoping Niode joins the fray with a differing, militant opinion, so I can watch the ensuing free-for-all flame fest. And then lordofduct needs to join and remind us why we're all stupid and how much more crazy his life is.Mozgus wrote:I'm not ganna "cool" anything. Don't like it? Take it up with Nick. Seriously, better than wrestling. Can you smell what the Mozgus is cooking?

Older. Not wiser.

Chow Mein 88 cent ramen bowl. Shrimp flavor. The whole room is coated in the smell right now. This shit lingers for days.Ack wrote:To be honest, I'm kinda hoping Niode joins the fray with a differing, militant opinion, so I can watch the ensuing free-for-all flame fest. But yeah, those are the best threads. Duct will come in here with some jacked story about coked up dead hookers, right before he locks the thread because we're being inappropriate.

I sort of agree with the OP, except for that he was too harsh. Ravenholm was really good. Probably best part about the game is the mods/modding community. I mean I guess you have to give it props for the gravity gun...
What I don't like though is how everyone(at least good portion of people) consider the series the holy grail of FPS's. Personally the game didn't seem like anything phenomenal to me. The game seemed too sterile. For me the only stand out merit of the series is their humor. But what do I know...

Regardless of what he's expecting, your comments look inappropriate to me. It's one thing to express unpopular opinions (different from trolling, look it up). It's another to fire back with personal attacks. Maybe you're joking, but text doesn't carry facial expressions and indications of sarcasm or friendly joking. Besides, when others come on and lay out the same kind of comment you can bet they'll get flagged. I don't believe in double standards, even if you are "just Mozgus being Mozgus".Mozgus wrote: I'm not ganna "cool" anything. Don't like it? Take it up with Nick. I can bet they won't, because they don't. I really hope you're not moderating this place to such a strict, anal standard. I didn't say anything outrageous. Let us have our conversation. Cry somewhere else.marurun wrote:Besides, when others come on and lay out the same kind of comment you can bet they'll get flagged.

You can afford to cool it a bit, Moz.

Really, I think you should finish the entire game. The game keeps picking up and by the end its a total rush unlike any other. Maybe the whole reason why it seems generic is because its set forth a set of storytelling techniques that have been emulated in almost every shooter after it... even though I still find it incredibly different than anything else today. Aside from that, you still have the orange box, you always got the godly tf2, that alone is worth the fifty bucks... unless of course your on the 360.
As for the halo remark... I kinda agree... kinda. Halo 1 on heroic (legendary campaign was just poorly designed, throw the guy in one spot, wait for 12 rounds of enemy dropships, go to the next area, wash, rinse, repeat.) was a pretty good single player experience with a hell of a multiplayer component. HL2 barebones is a hell of a single player experience with just a good multiplayer component (hl2 deathmatch). While this doesnt apply with the orange box, it levels the playing field a little. Truth be told, if i had to only play one it would halo just for the replayability offered by the multiplayer. Orange box... well that's a different story. Finally, halo's campaign got lazy near the end. You fight halfway... now do the same levels backwards! Aside from that, some levels just dragged on, like the library, the truth and reconcilation and Keyes (i think that's the levels name...). Really, I'm one of the few that think halo 3's campaign is the best of the bunch, plenty of variation, epic scale, interesting story... but i digress. Really, you have to finish the game before you make a decision, HL2 just keeps picking up near the end.
