Nintendo isn't going anywhere.

As soon as Monster Hunter 3 ships, Japan will be right back to buying the Wii in droves. Ungodly droves. And since Japan is the only place with a real slow down of sales, I don't quite understand the concern. WiiSports and WiiMotion Plus are enough to keep both EU and NA steady with buyers, not to mention the fact that they've announced that new Mario, Zelda, and Pikmin games are in the works for the Wii already.

And 'fad status'? 45 million sales in a little over 2 years? Sounds like NES and PS2 were fads too then.

Also, the most successful console has never been the top performing console in any generation and as much as I love my PS3, it doesn't have a chance of beating Wii's life time sales.

Nintendo isn't going anywhere.

As for nintendo, they deserve to slip, have you seen the games? There is like only 20 reasonable titles on that console.

I know exactly what you mean. I finally bought a Wii yesterday so I could play my gcn games through component (and I could justify the Wii but not the official gc component cables). I went to buy some more games for it and with the exception of Zelda there was nothing but craptastic party games. I don't think my Wii is gonna get a huge workout.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

A little off topic, but I've been thinking about getting a Wii and so I was checking out the VC list on Wikipedia. There's a lot less than I thought there would be.

The PS3 will never be as successful as the Wii. The new WiiMotionPlus will drastically improve the motion-sensing capabilities, and open up a ton of new game opportunities. The PS3 is a decent media center at best, with few game exclusives. The non-exclusives can be purchased on the 360 for generally cheaper prices. If any console will beat the Wii [which won't happen easily], it would be the 360. It's got far more exclusives, and in my opinion, is on par with the Wii in terms of fun, quality games. And for those people who think there are no good Wii games, let me say that Super Mario Galaxy is officially the 3rd best rated game of all time. Also, SSBB, Metroid Prime 3, Madworld, Zak and Wiki, Fire Emblem, Mario Kart, The Conduit, Wii Sports, No More Heroes, LOZ:TP, Super Paper Mario, Wario Ware, and a ton more. I'm hoping that both the Wii and 360 do very well, but Sony lost all their credibility. the PS1/2 had fantastic games, and they deserved their success. The PS3 is the exact opposite.

Meh, I get a lot more fun out of my PS3 than the 360 or Wii. Hell, my Wii has been in a box for going on a year, and I haven't had the desire to hook it back up.

The reason Wii's sales are drying up is because it no longer makes headlines, and supply is finally exceeding demand. That doesn't mean you should ever worry about the Wii financially, Nintendo has made enough money with it to buy God. There are plenty of "super-casuals" out there that demand nothing more than basic Guitar Hero and motion-capture sports, and the Wii has plenty of that.

Fucking super casuals. I have 'em in my family now. I can't even get them to play Warioware, all they fucking want is Guitar Hero: Aerosmith and Wii Sports.

Just one more reason I hope portable gaming gets bigger in America; so that I can pull out a real game when someone says "HAY! WHO WANTS TO PLAY SUM GEE-TAR FIGHTER?"

Edit: What is PS3 lacking that 360 has so much of? I personally choose PS3 over 360, and I'm very glad I did. All I'm missing is Dead Rising and Castle Crashers, and I'm sure I can make it without them.

Sorry, already got a personal friend lined up who wants it. If I sell it to anyone, it'd be him.

Edit: Reason I haven't committed to selling it yet is because I've never sold a system before. Ever. Even after getting a PS2, I still have the PS1. Even after getting the Wii, I kept my Gamecube. No matter how useless a system ends up becoming, I still hang on to it, for some reason.

Hey, I understand that. The only ones I've gotten rid of are the ones with decent BC.

Wii motion plus is an add on, and if it's anything that history has taught me it's that addons never do well regardless of how functional/good they really are. So this is one of those wait and see situations for me personally.

I don't think they are going anywhere, nor do I want a new console tomorrow. What I meant earlier, is I hope their R&D is working on something new. R&D on tech can take years to come to fruition. And I'm hoping Nintendo's next console takes more of a "traditional gaming" approach than the Wii. I do not see many of Nintendo's customer upgrading to a new console when the time comes. The better approach would be to keep the core gamers and as many young gamers as possible. And yes, they need to do something about quality. There seems to be a larger proportion of garbage on the Wii.

Nintendo was never on the verge of going under. They are smart and price new consoles to break even or generate small profits. However, had the Wii failed their console division may have been in a bad spot.
