You will never stop swearing at the rain.Ack wrote:Well then, children, gather round old Ack's comfy chair and prepare yourself to hear tell of a tale about how I awoke wearing jean shorts in an ancient spa, found an iPhone, and now get upgrades from magical blue udder drippings in a bunch of towers and solve underground puzzles for creepy dead people. There're sexy giants, numerous failed attempts to ride a goat, and copius amounts of me swearing at rain as I slide down mountains. It's gonna be fun.marurun wrote:Who doesn’t want that?Ack wrote: I mean, if you really want that...

Those are THE BEST kind of stories.
Rain fucking you over is a real thing.

Especially if said rain brings forth lightning. Then you better un-equip shit real fast or you're gonna end up fucked in general.marurun wrote:Rain fucking you over is a real thing.

The rain is actually one of the issues I have with BotW.
Well not the rain itself, but the fact that is a problem you can never solve. 1 hour into the game, 100 hours into the game with a fully upgraded climbing set, rain is still bound to screw you over on the first hour as it was on your 100th.
And though the are other things like that, the rain issue is particularly egregious since is basically random, and only really serves in wasting your time, though I like the way is used to keep you on a certain path leading to a certain dungeon, by endgame there should be a way to mitigate it, and there isn't.
That's one of the biggest problems with the game in general, is starts of so freeing, it doesn't really have anything of substance to unfold for you as you progress, because everything is available from the start.
But I don't want to poo-poo on the game too much with Ack starting it now, don't want to rain on his parade (hehe).
Besides, is still a great game even if it has some design choices I'm not too fond of.

Heart containers and super-rad Lynel weapons. In theory, they’re available at the beginning of the game, but there was no way I was getting them. (Even at full-power, a silver Lynel was no joke.) I also felt that the game world was so varied, and that there was so much to do and discover, that the game never really stopped unfolding until I had done just about everything. Even now, however, I feel I could go back and find even more details and experiences.
Also, just as in real life, rain will screw up a climb no matter how experienced you are at climbing.
In understand your point though, and while I love the game to bits - and consider it pretty much perfect - it’s not PERFECT in the truest sense of the word. There is definitely enough room for improvement that I am excited for a follow up.

Just remember the stamina bar only drains when you're MOVING! I kept forgetting that throughout my whole playthrough.
But really, just start a campfire or whatever to pass time!

Meh. I'm pretty sure I bypassed, like, 90% of that path (because path? Fuck that), climbed around everything and para-glided down from the surrounding mountains into the city proper, bypassing an encounter on the bridge that I didn't even know was a thing until a week later. Also, fun fact, gliding through lightning is not good for ones anxiety.Arenegeth wrote:The rain is actually one of the issues I have with BotW....... though I like the way is used to keep you on a certain path leading to a certain dungeon...
So, yeah, it's a problem, but it's not a wholly insurmountable problem.

That, that right there is why this game is fantastic and has the continued sales figures that grow to back that up. While Zelda sales were flagging and falling off (vs total systems sold) this one is anything but. They too late for my taste finally got the point that re-hashing the same general formula of the order or progression created in game one and nailed down tight on the third with the SNES was beyond played out, it was 20+ years stale. You get your experience, a great world, something where you still months, years later can find something new about it and still feel fresh as well, while not being burdened by the past designs that aged badly while the good stuff still bleeds through. Zelda needed this badly. I can only wonder what they could do if they did something of this sort even using this engine on a Mario game, open world Mushroom Kingdom. Sure you could go everywhere, and the very small sliver of those who seem to only find fun in ruining a game in the quickest dirties way possible wont like it, but for most a design like this ensures years of excellent play and restarts if you like without being old.prfsnl_gmr wrote:Heart containers and super-rad Lynel weapons. Imagine that Mario idea, what if you had the SMB3 or 4 world, but then truly made a big freaking world with the Zelda towers supplanted by koopa kid castles, and who knows what in all the surrounding area that could just kill the little plumber. Something more vast than odyssey yet like it if you didn't jump in and out for overkill moon collection where each world is stitched progressively to the next. That could be insane.

Re: Switch Discussion Thread
There are now (rather believable) rumors that we'll be getting more Microsoft published games AND Microsoft's GAME PASS and streaming of physical games from your Xbox via PROJECT CLOUD on Switch later this year.
