Wii Sales Concerns

Sales are starting to slow for the Wii while picking up for the PS3. I hope Nintendo has been developing a replacement. I would hate to see them slip out of the #1 spot.

The Wii already sold enough, and the PS3 is never going to catch up because most of this generation bought their console of choice , and its not 2006 any more, , ps3 is not the greatest most powerful thing out there.

As for nintendo, they deserve to slip, have you seen the games? There is like only 20 reasonable titles on that console, I own one and its not too hard to make a choice what to buy. They deserve it for selling crap-ware and silly games really. I don't mind them, but I mind the quality games being almost none..i really wanted the Wii to succeed , but you know what they say, be careful what you wish for. I really didn't expect this kind of success. I always say can you imagine if the Wii was not losing, but it was on equal sales with 360/ps , I bet the greatest game we will see for the Wii would be cooking mama.

So you want to buy another new console?? Already? Just so Nintendo can stay number 1?

Wii is gonna fall off eventually, it really isnt that good of a piece of hardware. If Nintendo already has its replacement ready, it will alienate a lot of people who just bought Wiis. Also, I think Nintendo is smart enough to realize that Wii is was successful because it became a cultural phenomenon. If they just update the Wii or some out with something similar it wont be nearly as successful. I think there is a large amount of Wii owners who arent going to be a nextgen console.

Nintendo has nothing to worry about for a while. Developers are just starting to use the Wii's unique controls to there fullest potential. So, to come out with a new console so soon would be a pretty shitty business decison considering Nintendo is coasting in the #1 spot.

These are only one month's numbers. If you read the context, last March had easter and Smash Bros. Yeah the Wii fell off a little but that's what happens when you sell like gangbusters for two solid years. Wait for it decline for several months before wringing any hands.

There are two things that worry me about the Wii:
1) Fad status, this indicates that the product has reached Furby or Beanie Baby like status, and when something new comes along it'll either be boxed up and put away, or thrown away.

2) Dreamcast syndrome, this indicates that the system had a phenomenal launch, but people will drop it in a heartbeat if something shinier comes along that is comparable control and price wise, or has an insane feature at the price point (eg. PS2 DVD playback).
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS

Ive got my Zelda and a couple awesome new games, if it dies soon I would be ok, not happy, but ok. Its only a console folks, a little box that provides entertainment. The company will always be around since they sold the console for a profit since the beginning and they kinda own handheld gaming. So even if the Wii disappears off the map, well Nintendo is not going anywhere. Heck many of the older generation still call video games "Nintendos."

Looking at VG Chartz, and keeping in mind the Wii's relative performance to the PS3 and 360, it's clear that Wii sales are only really having problems in Japan. But even there, there's a bigger problem with the Japanese console market in general. All three current-gen systems are suffering, and selling 15.5k (PS3) to the Wii's (14.8k) leaves both Sony and Nintendo with sales problems. Wii continues to dominate in Europe and the US, often outselling PS3+X360 combined.

What concerns me about Wii is the lackluster sales of some of the recent core games. Take Sega for example. It's got one of the most impressive third-party lineups with House of the Dead: Overkill, Madword, and the upcoming The Conduit. But The first two titles--no matter what Sega says--are NOT lighting up the sales charts. With all the hype build-up for The Conduit, if that too disappoints I fear that it will send a very negative message to all developers considering core/hardcore games for the Wii.

Isn't it just because (in Japan in particular) everyone has already bought one?

I work at a gamecrazy and over the past 2 years we sold so many wii's it was ridiculous to say the least.for the past 3 months we have had a stack of like 20 wii's just sitting there while selling more ps3's than anything. I think when the ps3 hits 299 and has some time it will be in the same position as the ps2.
