So is the rumor mill right how it's quite like how the original GBC Mario Golf approached things? The GBA game kind of went a little more off the rails with really stupid mini golf almost like carny shots for learning things or side games. The original was straight up golf with honest easy to nasty shots and pretty cut and dry learning course areas around the real greens. That had been my one concern over it.

I'm on the fence interested in Golf Story. I love a good Golf game, but I fear it'll have too much Story.

The story is silly and all fluff and the golf is barely there. Just imagine it being a tri-click target practice game. There are golf moments and they are fun, but a lot of the time it is, "Bet you can't make this drive" or, "Bet you can't hit this target."

It is a lot of fun but if people are expecting a golf game like Mario golf or something, it is not that at all.

Thank you for the clarification. Might as well stick to NES Open Tournament Golf on the Switch Online service then.

I don't really care for golf games, so the fact that it's more Story than Golf actually makes me a lot more interested than I was before
I'll have to keep an eye out once Best Buy starts carrying it :D

Rime is on sale on Amazon.co.uk exclusively to Prime customers. Since the Switch version has had most of its faults/bugs fixed via the latest patch, is it worth getting? I never got around to playing it when it first came out.

It is a lot of fun, but it is not a traditional golf game.

Smash Direct Summary:

Spirits is the new Single Player mode, and "Spirits" themselves are like a mix of Smash 4's amiibo-use items mixed with Brawl's stickers

New Figheters are:
Incineroar as a brand new fighter
Ken as an Echo Fighter of Ryu
Piranha Plant as a post-launch DLC that will be free if you get the game by January 31st (they said it you buy it digitally it'll work, or if you register it with your My Nintendo account with the physical version (by redeeming your gold coins)), just like Mewtwo was for Smash 4

They've confirmed that a five DLC fighters will be coming, each with their own stage and music track at 6 buck (or so) a piece or $25 for the season pass. However, either their identities still aren't confirmed or they're keeping very tight-lipped on it (they even more or less said that buying the season pass before you know what they are would be a bit silly  ). They said development hasn't even started on them yet, but they'll all be out by February 2020.

Shadow the Hedgehog, Isaac from Golden Sun, and the Black Knight from Fire Emblem have all been confirmed as assist trophies (as well as the game having 59 assist trophies in total, greater than the total number of Pokemon). I only mention this because those were three of the most highly speculated other new fighters, and apparently Nintendo knew this too because those were the 3 they showed first

That's all the big stuff anyhow. There's some more stuff about the nuances of online play (which did get a pretty big overhaul, but that's something worth looking at a more dedicated list for), enhanced options, and such, but those are the highlights I thought were worth mentioning.

I'm super excited for this game~! This Direct was hardly what I wanted it to be, but Nintendo apparently wasn't lying when they said a couple months back that they'd blown all their big Smash announcements a bit early

EDIT: also, the Smash theme has a version with vocals which, while good, ain't nearly as catchy as the Super Mario Odyssey theme :P

EDIT2: I also forgot to mention that trophies are no longer a thing. Now it's all the Spirit/stickers that you collect. So pretty 3D rendered statues you can look at are gone (which apparently took a lot of dev time), and new 2D art that has in-game functions are here in their place.
