Best PS2 2D Fighters

Sony is to blame mostly. When putting together this list, I read that Sony doesn't like 2D games being released at "new" prices. For example, $49.99 or $39.99. Which is why SVC Chaos and half the other Neo Geo library didnt see the light of day in North America.

Currently I'm playing Neo Geo Batlle Coliseum, Guilty Gear Slash, Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike, and Snk Vs. Capcom 2. Snk vs. Capcom 2 and sf3 3rd strike are by far my favorite fighters on the system. I'm really looking forward to the port of Hokouto no Ken and hopefully the new guilty gear game that just got released in the japanese arcades.
Saraph, I think that you forgot the Darkstalkers Collection and SF3 Third Strike. SF3 3rd Strike is incluede in the sf anniversary collection w/street fighter 2, but it was also released as a seperate stand alone game in japan.

I forgot neither, it makes no sense to list 3rd Strike if it already comes with Anniversary Collection. If I was going by that reasoning, I would have to list every King of Fighters title independently when the 2 in 1 compilations work just fine. Also, the Darkstalkers compilation you are referring to is actually titled Vampire: Darkstalkers Collection. It was only released in Japan. If you happen to see any titles that are missing totally, please let me know.

Does Nintendo have something similar to that over here? There are like no 2D games on the GCN, but that may be the developers fault and not Nintendo.Saraph wrote:neohx_7 wrote:Its also annoying that so many of these games never came to the US. Stupid 2D game policies at Sony HQ.

I don't know about their policies, but the GCN actually had a plethora of decent 2D games and compilations. It just didn't have any great 2D fighters probably due to the controllers... shape. Even CvSNK2 had to have an "Easy Operation" option in order to play the game without pitching a fit.
Some notable 2D games:
Megaman Anniversary Collection
Megaman X Collection
Sonic Gems Collection
Sonic Mega Collection
The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures
Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO
