I've heard it's pretty easy to jump back into and gone are the randomized Blades, you just have a specific set of characters. I hear it can run 20-40 hours. I'm excited for a more condensed Xenoblade and this portion of 2's backstory should be amazing.

I guess it's weird how it all worked out with the patches, DLC, season pass, but this Torna release feels like a full blown expansion pack to me. I haven't played 2 since I beat it earlier this year before all the updates so it'll be interesting to see how it is. I just hope you can still get some run/speed upgrades while roaming around.
So I didn't even touch Torna this weekend. Instead I spent most of my time playing with the expansion pass DLC in the main game. I got all the expansion pass blades and went to work on filling in their affinity charts. I have one left that will take some challenge mode grinding to finish and then there is Poppibuster's heart-to-heart requirements...ughh.

All the expansion pass blades are really strong though. Corvin, especially, is stupidly over powered. I thought KOS-MOS was OP but Corvin is darn near invincible with very respectable damage for a tank.

Arena of Valor (free MOBA) is out on the eShop today. I will be checking that one out for sure.

no... I mean, I'm sure I'll end up doing so for like Phantasy Star but for the most part I won't buy digital Switch titles unless I really don't have an option. And Sega just announced that the physical Genesis Collection is coming to Switch "this winter," so it'd have to be game - like Phantasy Star - that I really want access to but isn't on a physical release.

As it stands right now, the only digital Switch games I own are free-to-play titles, and Sonic Mania which I only bought because it wasn't released physically... until it was. I feel like I've seen that happen too many times, so now my view is "eh, if I wait a few months it'll come out on a cart" for most games.

I admit I will, whenever the original Phantasy Star hits as it's short enough and made nicely enough I can still enjoy that one, and Virtua Racing I really loved on Genesis and the Saturn one was ok, meh but playable, so to have that release would be sweet. I don't intend to support Sega really, but if there's something I know I'd get the money out of honestly to myself and believe it I'd pay. I've done that with Nintendo, got their Mario Bros arcade, but never grabbed the others, partly as I forgot, but also a bit lazy so I kind of questioned if I'd bother in the end. I imagine they run some sale down the line for 1/3 to 1/2 off off I'd probably be motivated.

I prefer physical too, but are you aware that the emulation and sound in the Genesis Collection is a bit crap? The Ages ports are supposed to be vastly superior (also, in Sonic 1, they added the drop dash move from Mania!).

The classic NES and Sega releases haven't piqued my interest much, as I already own carts or have other digital versions.

I'm loving the Arcade Archives and Johnny Turbo stuff though, as most of that isn't playable in any other fashion (save for ROMz).

ACA NeoGeo also has some nice digital releases of games that I otherwise find prohibitively expensive. Like, Cyber-Lip is finally affordable.

This is an awesome retro machine.

I have the collection on Xbox One, and have played a bunch of games on it, and have not been noticeably bothered by anything. Shrug. I'd rather have the physical collection of 50 games for $30 or whatever, and then cherry-pick only single downloads that I feel like I "need," such as Phantasy Star.

I am loving the ('free') NES games included with the Switch Online service. For me these games are all NEW again since I haven't played most of them in many years.

Agreed on the Retro Machine, though. Considering how recently the Switch was released, it's amazing how much quality stuff has been ported to it.

Started playing Arena of Valor. My wife asked what it was. I said it's like Heroes of the Storm. She said "see you in six months."

triple post... sorry.

Okay, so some of you dudes + dudettes MAY know that I become obsessed with Heroes of the Storm for like two years solid. So I feel like I'm coming into Arena of Valor with some previous experience with the MOBA genre. That said, I have attempted to investigate Dota 2 and League of Legends in the past, and neither was for me at all. Call me a baby, but I just prefer my MOBAs to be less hardcore timesinks. Heroes of the Storm was like an arcade MOBA where matches rarely even 20+ mins. And that was a big part of the appeal.

I played about three hours of Arena of Valor. So I think that says I like it. Although there's still a lot I don't know about - partly because this is the first time I've attempted a MOBA on a console, and partly because the game doesn't always explain everything great. Namely, I am not familiar with any heroes yet (obviously, that takes time) but also I'm not familiar with what their special attacks are, and I don't think the game does a great game at really giving you a chance to know this ahead of time. It describes them on the hero select screen, but you'll be holding up your party if you read them. You could read them mid-match but that's not always feasible either. So it's just a matter of learning this stuff over time I think.

I somehow own two heroes already. I think I unlocked them via the tutorial, or maybe just everyone gets to start with them. All heroes are currently marked as "Free," though I'm fairly certain this is a limited trial - probably to help promote the launch. I will say it appears that heroes are EXPENSIVE to unlock with in-game currency. I don't have nearly enough gold to actually buy anyone yet. But at least for now that's no matter since they're all unlocked for now.

I went back and forth between two heroes last night - Violet is a ranged attacker who I enjoyed a lot (and that tends to be my preferred playstyle in a MOBA, though I'm always happy to experiment), and Butterfly is a cool melee attacker.

I played all of the tutorial stuff (some of it twice) and then five standard matches. The teams I was on won four games, and lost once with me getting MVP a whopping three times. I don't believe this is because I'm gud, but rather because the game just launched and there's a fairly good chance that I'm playing with a bunch of folks who have never actually played a MOBA before so aren't necessarily sure how to best prioritize things.

At any rate, my first impression is positive. I can definitely see myself sinking some good hours into this one. :D
