There is one very important feature in the games that you can still do. Play them.

I stumbled upon this little ditty earlier today. Enjoy:

On a somewhat related note, I wish more people said things like "He's such a Barry," the way they do with "Samantha."

If you live in the u.s. you pay a whole lot less than the rest of the world. We actually live in an era where games costs the least in general. The indie scene has caused a huge surge of $20 or less games that offer a huge amount of gameplay value. Take a look at a game like Stardew Valley. I bought it for $15 on my Nintendo Switch and have put in 90 hours of quality gameplay time. You can't say that for some $60 AAA games.

Generally speaking, they really aren't that expensive, at least not in the U.S.

Games themselves have, relatively speaking, gotten cheaper over time. Check out this short clip of Toys R Us almost 30 years ago. Genesis games then were similar to prices of new games now.
Where you actually tend to see inflation take effect is on hardware. The $150 or so that a NES Power Set would have run you in 1988 would be around $320 today, or a few bucks more than a Switch (though, to be fair, that included more out of the box).

In addition to that, we also tend to see games remain available as their prices drop - whether via digital options or via vast online selections. Some of it might be more applicable to PC gaming, but I mean, we can often get legal copies of games for a few bucks or less. It's not even that uncommon to get free games for one reason or another.

If you account for the entertainment value of even a single game, it can be an extremely cheap hobby. Obviously, that's not necessarily true for collecting, and buying up everything that looks half interesting as it comes out will add up.

Still, that's more an overall thing, which may not feel as true when faced with particular games or publishers. I mean, AAA games do cost a lot to make, but, probably also sell enough that they don't need to double or triple their sticker price in add-on content. So it might come down to what you particularly have in mind as expensive. If all you're looking at is having quality games of some kind available to play for low cost, then there's a ton of stuff out there. Things like a $130 SKU of Black Ops 4 to preorder are more the exception.

POLYMEGA console is coming out, it's a multi-console that will run sega, ps1 CDs, nintendo games
Simplest bundle will cost 250usd, so it looks like a great revival of an all in one standard which might save the retro gaming for the future generations

There's quite the discussion of this console going on over here. It seems that they may have mishandled some communication of functionality prior to pre-orders going live? Having said that, I hope that this console finds its audience and turns out to be a successful endeavor. An abundance of options is a good thing where it comes to retro-gaming!

DS online functionality was shut down a few years ago I'm afraid, so online battling and trading no longer exists in the gen 4 and gen 5 games (Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, SoulSilver, Black, White, Black 2 and White 2), or any other online capable DS game for that matter.

Same goes for Wii - online got shut off around the same time, other than the Wii Shop channel which is finally on it's way out now.

I had to double check this: Xlink Kai doesn’t support piping but at one point I could have sworn that the DS was supported at one point.

So, probably a question that will have an expected answer, but is it worth messing with the PC version of Skyrim for mods? I've been looking over quite a few lately for shits and giggles, and I can't tell if it's worth the plunge. Most of what I see hits the visuals, which I can't push too much on PC. Otherwise, I'm not seeing a ton capture my attention. I'm a stickler for being lore friendly and tone correct though, so that limits things quite a bit.
