Well I intend to start it up here again today sooner or later but it will play.
Normally I hate RPGs over 40 hours 50 tops, but in rarer cases like this or Dragon Warrior 4 where you have mini rpg after mini rpg I can deal. The stand alone stories are just a bunch of nice little things to go one after another into so that makes it far more accessible to me.
Speaking of, would be nice if the Android DQ games got converted to the Switch. I'd so so snap up the DQ4 DS->Android(and iOS) conversion most definitely. Perhaps even the graphics tweaked up original FF1 and DQ1 too. Wouldn't go crazy but a few would be sweet.
Also Nintendo is running a pretty nice weekend discount (longer? don't know) deal on switch stuff. I used paypal through their site and bought a game that's normally like $10 for $5. Xeodrifter -- https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/xeodrifter-switch

Re: Switch Discussion Thread
HOLY SHIT. Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles is getting a Switch remaster next year! Dudes. The Switch is THEE machine for playing new old games. Oh my goodness.
Re: Switch Discussion Thread
Wait what?! I mostly liked that game, the chalice lugging got nasty on the GC but the handheld version cleaned that up so it wasn't a burden. I'm sure it'll be further refined and knowing them probably throw in some online play too as it's got those gauntlet like elements to it. I haven't seen the video yet, if there is one, so I'll have to look.
Oh and Octopath is improving, now I have Ophilia and Cyrus in a party and I'm getting the handle on the Bravely Default factors of the charge or pass setup so I'm not getting mauled so much as I was with him alone, and having 2 characters makes it a far less boring and dragged out battle setup too. Not sure how far to level the girl, but I'm on it. I got most the gear I could use other than 2 chest pieces, which are like 4200, and I got most the checks in town for analyzing with him, but pissed off a few so now I need like 5k to bribe my way to happiness again which sucks.

Ophilia rules. The gameplay definitely improves with new party members. And yeah, once you really wrap your head around the battle system (IE: saving up BP's, or breaking enemies, etc) the game kind of turns into this fantastic puzzle game. At least stick with it until you've got a full party of four so you can see how cool the combinations of party members can be. I still haven't finished Octopath, but consider it one of the absolute best games of the year.
Regarding Crystal Chronicles - yeah, the chalice complaints are something I'm sure Square is aware of and planning to fix in the remaster. Either way, I think it's AWESOME that such a random FF game would get a remaster. I personally had a blast playing CC on Gamecube, so I'm looking forward to a new port. Besides, it really makes me happy to see that Switch is not only home to new ports of "the classics," but also to oddball titles as well. Keep 'em coming!

Crystal Chronicles is a game I skipped on the Cube, perhaps because of my dismissive attitude and youthful ignorance? I was basically like "oh, that's not a REAL Final Fantasy game. Meh, skip"
So what's it like? Worth checking out?

It's good fun in multiplayer. I wouldn't recommend it on your own.Reprise wrote:Crystal Chronicles is a game I skipped on the Cube, perhaps because of my dismissive attitude and youthful ignorance? I was basically like "oh, that's not a REAL Final Fantasy game. Meh, skip"

Just announce 4 Swords and I can sell my 5 Cubes and buy 4 more Switches.
Re: Switch Discussion Thread
In a weird way it's like Final Fantasy meets 1-4 player arcade Gauntlet. It's not a turn based title, gamepad play going on in live combat, but has the spells, skills, gear, items, and quirks of a FF game at play there. It works ok alone, more on the revised handheld release, because you have to lug a chalice around so you don't die from sucking miasma. In a 2-4p game, someone still gets stuck carrying it around, but it's less of an issue or a chore there. The handheld one put it on an AI type mode that carried it, so you could just keep pounding on stuff and not doing stop and go play to move your life preserver along.Reprise wrote:Crystal Chronicles is a game I skipped on the Cube, perhaps because of my dismissive attitude and youthful ignorance? You are confusing the game and its sequels.Tanooki wrote:In a weird way it's like Final Fantasy meets 1-4 player arcade Gauntlet. - FFCC in singleplayer mode has a Moogle carry the Chalice for you
- FFCC in multiplayer one player carries the Chalice and can put it down to fight at anytime. I suggest a Selkie player since the Chalice slows you down and Selkies are faster.
- FFCC Rings of Fate - is a DS game without a Chalice
- FFCC Echoes of Time - is a DS and Wii game, also without a Chalice.
FFCC is rubbish in 2 or 3 players, but is phenomenal in 4 player. Having three people casting on aggroing while the 4th carries is fine, but when it is one person fighting and one person carrying it is just annoying.
Now ROF and EOT just take the best parts of the previous titles and build them better. A modern version of EOT would be one of my perfect games.
Re: Switch Discussion Thread
Guess I forgot about the moogle. I do agree though those DS games, especially the first of the two were amazing.
If I were to just say F it and started to really crack down, get rid of stuff I at this rate do care about to take a fine point to it, I'd start popping for some DS games again since the New3DS is able and the FF3 and FFCC titles would be up on the list, so would Phatasy Star 0 too among a few other sweet time sink gems like that.
