Is the first boss the dude on the bridge? I beat him tonight which unlocks the daily challenges. I got lucky with bear traps and fire bombs.

I finished Octopath Traveler this weekend. I played through 5 of the 8 character's stories: Primrose, Ophelia, Tressa, Olberic, and Therion. Of the eight, I played through OTOPT. "Pot to" Or "Top to". I didn't find Cyrus or Alfyn interesting enough. H'aanit's first chapter was enough to put her aside from my party and never have her take part again.

I can't say that I'm going to beat the game's true final end boss because I have a feeling it'll be super grindy. I could already start to piece the elements that weave the eight travelers' narratives together.

I really enjoyed Octopath Traveler overall. The gameplay is really good. I hear it takes some parts from the Bravely series and leaves some out. The subclass mechanic is really good. The Path Actions are pretty cool for engaging with NPC's and finding ways to enhance the game. The class system really gives you a lot of freedom and customization on how you assemble your team, something that I haven't really experienced before in a JRPG. The soundtrack is wonderful and the graphics are endearing and something the Racketboy crowd would truly enjoy.

The only detractors are two: I think at this point in my life, though I'm done with random encounters in my RPG's. The dungeons felt a little cookie cutter, devoid of puzzles or original elements.

If you've been wanting to play through a quality JRPG, I don't think you could go wrong with Octopath Traveler.

I'm pretty excited for the new pokemon games that will be coming out. I might have to buckle down and get the system.

Dead Cells definitely has me hooked. Everything just works so well. The controls are perfect. And it REALLY has the whole "one more run" thing going for it, which gives me the same feels as I had back when I was obsessed w/ Spelunky. I've tried the daily challenge two days now, and both times got destroyed INSTANTLY. Literally 4 seconds yesterday, haha. But the main game is just fantastic. A solid run for me can get up to a half hour now. I've only beaten that boss bridge once so far, though. Mostly my runs consist of me trying to open up every part of the map on the first level just to farm for cells. Then I kind of do the same on the second level, but depending on enemy placement or whatever it can go south so I still have to be careful. Anyway, awesome game. Totally worth all the praise it's been getting.

That's the one. I have only had one attempt so far, but I just didn't feel ready for him. I did have bear traps and ice bombs (if I remember correctly). Next time I hope to take him down.

Whelp, last night I beat the SECOND boss. I had the most in-the-zone run I've ever had. It lasted just over an HOUR. Which is intense. I'm used to 20-30 mins runs. I made it so much further than I had before. The level after the second boss just wrecked me, though. I had no idea what to expect from new enemy types, and they overwhelmed me and I jumped into spikes. Brutal.

If I can get the right combo of secondary weapons down, then the game feels way more manageable. Basically I try to get a wolf trap and then some kind of shooting turret thing. Y'know, like the spinning blades or whatever? Then I try to get whatever modifiers lower the cool-down on those. After a while it gets so I can be really slow and methodical and can drop that combo above/below me and let them clear out whole sections with me out of harm's way. Is it cheap? Sure. But it's very helpful haha.

I walked away for now from Code of Princess last night. The Switch game is just nastier than the 3DS one since you can't configure your level ups yourself and the AI is a bit more on the cheap side, not harder, just repetitively faster/cheaper with some things forcing larger bouts of annoying grinding and repetitively watching story bits to do that.

After I literally pitched the Switch after getting angry at it and realizing the fun stopped and I was chore battling something just to get it over with I had my fill. I'll finish it, but now to play Octopath Traveler hopefully starting later today.

oh holy shit. I feel like there's a new announcement for something that I'm excited about every few days now. Civilization VI will be on Switch on November 16th. And Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition will be released "soon." I mean... all these games. It's awesome and overwhelming haha.

(Oh, and the Mega Man 11 demo is up on the Switch eShop.)
