Switch Discussion Thread
Re: Switch Discussion Thread
Oh I get it with the art style thing, although I like it in HK. But I have trouble with DQ due to the artist, not a fan of Toriyama.

Re: Switch Discussion Thread
I personally prefer Axiom Verge to Hollow Knight due to some design decisions of Hollow Knight that I felt detracted from the overall experience.

Re: Switch Discussion Thread
Having not played it I doubt it matters to some, but I chose Axiom Verge and had it, finished it. I didn't like the design setup of HK, or how it looked either really so I went with the other as it just felt more right and my belief was backed up pretty fast once I started to play with it.
Re: Switch Discussion Thread
I'd MUCH rather play this than Hollow Knight for sure. It looks awesome, just busier with other games right now. Maybe I'll grab it on a sale someday.noiseredux wrote:Okay Dead Cells is really good.
Hollow Knight... yeah I agree with some others the art style is great and all but not my style personally, also always heard bad things about the map system. That's kind of crucial for a Metroidvania. And it's apparently like 30 some hours long, I think this genre is best kept around 10 hours max like SoTN. Anything more seems kind of overkill.
Axiom Verge was amazing and I definitely loved that one.
Re: Switch Discussion Thread
If you're digging into map system issues, NOT having one is a stopper for me with Owlboy. Game looks great, but this isn't the NES era anymore. I'm not going to be pulling out graphing paper and charting a map as I play so I'm not lost going in circles or hitting walls repeatedly.
Dead Cells look like the best option likely between all three. The fact it does that SOTN style so well but gets a bit of a mix of sadist and self improvement with the rogue touched makes you more want to try another crack at it. It's why I kept poking away at Everspace as I did because you could get just another crap map, or a nice set and get one new little thing or a bit more dough to buy some better item drops weren't doing. You'd die a 100 times and it wasn't infuriating for feeling wasteful.

Re: Switch Discussion Thread
My first impression of Dead Cells was 'huh this is pretty fun' but two hours went by in what felt like 30 mins. Very compelling.
Re: Switch Discussion Thread
Now that's the sign of a rarer good game. Breath of the Wild did that for me on the entire run, Everspace did it for a good stretch but I never get around to finishing it (quit on it the 2nd to last PC HDD failure) though the cloud save I think exists still.
I've been doing time on Code of Princess, it's harder than the 3DS version. I'm stuck at the big ninja battle, get wrecked from what damage the hits do so I need to power level I guess which wasn't really a thing years ago. I know I'll try out Octopath soon, I have to.

As I have said before, I think Dead Cells is excellent. I still haven't got past the first boss though haha.
