According to my wife and daughter, it is very solid. It doesn’t reach the heights of Studio Ghibli’s best work, apparently, but both of them thoroughly enjoyed it.

According to my wife and daughter, it is very solid. It doesn’t reach the heights of Studio Ghibli’s best work, apparently, but both of them thoroughly enjoyed it.

They liked it quite a bit. I liked the animation, the story was just ok. I definitely recommend it for the age group my girls are in: 5 - 9 years old.

Taxandria is pretty much the Belgian version of the Phantom Toll Booth, though instead of being about learning the cartoon world is about repression of knowledge and ruling with an iron fist.

I don't find many new movies that suits my taste for the past few years, i do watch my personal favorites once in a while, majority being from the mind bending genre.
I really loved The Secret Window with J. Depp, based on a novel written by Stephen King.

I rewatched Mr. Nobody yesterday, it's as amazing as the first time. The main actor being Jared Leto, the soft character and it's non-linear journey through moments of life/duality. I do believe in something very similar that happens in our lives. I don't want to tell too much x)

I saw two movies recently that were adaptations of books I’ve listened to prior to the viewing. Both represent opposites on the “book to movie” spectrum.

Ready Player One has the characters, setting, and end goal from the book. Some other call backs to the book as well but everything else is not faithful to the book at all. Kind of hard to compress a 15+ hour audiobook into a two hour movie and sell it.

The second movie was The Martian. That movie was very close to the source material. If you haven’t heard of the book, it’s about how an astronaut was stranded on Mars and had to figure out how to survive. In the book it’s told in a first person perspective as log entries with cuts to Earth following other characters in third person. It does miss a couple of moments found in the book but overall it sticks to the book pretty closely and I’ve enjoyed this more because of it.

Also, last Sunday I rewatched Jason Goes to Hell, which is one of the best New Line-Era Jason films.

And over the last few days I watched all 5 Phantasm films. Awesome. Also, WOW did this series go off the rails!

Agatha Christie’s Ordeal by Innocence on Prime Video is just outstanding. Like the best Agatha Christie adaptations, it plays up the source material’s horror elements, and I loved it. If you are a fan of her work, or a fan of mysteries generally, I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Hurricane Bianca and Hurricane Bianca 2, both of which are great.

Mary and Max, a bittersweet claymated drama about a young Australian girl who becomes a penpal with a 40something Jewish man with Aspergers.
