I like music. I like video games. So it naturally follows that I like music video games.
I thought I would share some of my favorites and hidden gems with you and see if you all have any recommendations for other games to look into.
I own the PS2, PSX, SNES, N64, SNES, NES, and a PC. I also have various emulators.
Music games I already own:
Guitar Hero I, II, III, 80's encore, and Aerosmith.
Frequency
Magix Music Maker
Karaoke Revolution
Lumines
PaRappa the Rapper
Pump It Up: Exceed
Music games on my wish list
Amplitude
Gitaroo Man
Rez
Rock Band
Space Channel 5
Hidden gems I recommend to you :
Synaesthete: This game is a head trip. If you play it too long your eyes will bleed and your brain will explode, but it's so fun that is a risk you will be willing to take. Seriously though, if you are at risk of seizures in anyway, this is one you should DEFINITELY stay away from. This game is sort of like Guitar Hero meets Berzerk on acid. And it's absolutely FREE! Download it! You won't regret it (unless of course you have a seizure).
Audio Surf: This is another game worth checking out. It is like Rez meets Klax meets your MP3/itunes collection. That's right, this game uses your music for the soundtrack. It quickly analyzes the sound properties of your MP3s and designs levels based on the tempo and intensity of your music. The visuals also pulse and blink in sync with the beats of your tunes. Finally you can hear whatever music you want in a music game. I rather enjoyed using my original tunes as a soundtrack. You can download a free demo or buy the whole thing for a simple 10 bucks.
Music Catch: this game is really relaxing. You just have to catch little bubbling shapes that spray out with the music. Avoid the red ones and grab the yellow ones to get more points, but there's no pressure. The full version lets you use your own MP3s.
D-Pad Hero: this is the 8-bit answer to Guitar Hero. You'll need an NES emulator. You'll probably need a joypad too because this game is really hard.
Patapon 2 (flash demo): I don't own a PSP, but I'm sure I would buy this game in a heartbeat if I did. The free flash demo makes me want to play more.
So, what games do you recommend?

Rockband 1 & 2-They are so fun to play especially on drums,I didn't like the singing part, but the guitar put is really fun too.The guitar part of the game is hard but not as challenging as GH3.
Dance Dance Revolution games-I don't know if you like these games,I love playing these games.I only play these games as the arcade because of the lack of space right now.
It's really weird when these game where popular I didn't like them at all and then last summer started to play these games and now I love playing them, talk about being late.
Guitar Hero World Tour-This game is fun too,it plays just like RB.The only thing I didn't like about this game is that some of the same songs are in RB2,which is not very creative.
In the Groove is fun,but not as good as DDR,its a glorified clone.
I want to get Space Channel 5 also,I've heard its fun!

Amplitude- Probably one of the best rhythm games ever. You can definitely tell
it was a precursor to Guitar Hero. I love GH/RB, but something about the simplicity of Amplitude makes it seem more genuinely challenging. Also check out its prequel, Frequency if you like it.
Space Channel 5- Probably my first real encounter with a rhythm game. Great style, fun music, and it's on the Dreamcast.
Part 2 is IMO better simply because I feel it, like any sequel, made improvements on the original's game play and added some cool new variations to the normal dance routine.
And the obvious one that has already been mentioned Rock Band 2
I have to admit, I biased when it comes to the GHWT/RB thing (and if you note that I've been playing Harmonix games since Frequency, you'll understand why.) While GHWT isn't a bad game, it just perpetually seems like Guitar Hero: Rock Band edition. RB is just a more refined game overall, plus the insane amount of DLC and the ability to import RB1 songs seem to give it a lot more staying power.
So yeah, i'm definitely a big music game fan.
D-pad hero is easily one of my favs as of late. Good recommendation....I'll have to try the others out this weekend.

Tsk tsk, nobody cares to mention VIB Ribbon?

Beatmania is pretty intense.
Re: Recommend me a music game...
I'd honestly recommend against DDR if you already have Pump. I DDR'd for two years before our arcade got a Pump machine; once it did I never played DDR again. The charts are much more limited than Pump charts due to the pad layout.

It's no more a music game than Rez is, but Brainpipe for pc is worth checking out.
