Hey, so this may be of interest to some of you - apparently that new Hotel Transylvania game is basically just Pikmin.

Are you still playing this, dude? I know you and Fast had at least started it, but as I'm playing and finding myself in total awe, I'm surprised that there isn't more discussion going on about how good this game is, and which paths we're all taking.

Yup, I am indeed. I can't put it down! I'm just over 20 hours in at the moment. Olberic is my main man. It took me ages to choose my main character, but Olberic just kinda chimed with me. I remember reading quite a lot of criticisms that his personality and story was generic, but I quite like that kind of generic narrative to be honest (at least so far - I haven't reached anyone's second chapter yet). I've picked up Tressa, Primrose, Alfyn and Therion so far. Just playing through Therion's chapter one right now, which I'm nearly finished (I'm playing the boss fight as I type this).

Who are you playing as your main character? Are you also making your way through the map to open everyone's stories?

Edit: BTW, this has grown from a 8/10 type of game to an easy 9 or 10. I mean, if we feel like putting arbitrary scores against our opinions.

My main is Ophilia for no real reason other than that's just who I arbitrarily started the game with, and I find her use of healing just works well as an anchor for the rest of the party. She's at lvl 11 or 12 now, H'aanit is around 8 or 9, and Cyrus is maybe 4. I've been keeping a log in the RPG Progress Report thread, though I'm only 5-6 hrs in right now as I just got the game on Monday. For now, I'm figuring that yeah I'll keep moving on and unlocking everyone's chapter 1's. I mean, I assume the end-game goal is to beat both chapters of all characters. Like, I assume you don't beat the game without beating all the stories?

Yeah, I hear that the only way to unlock the 'true' ending is to beat all 8 stories. What that means or entails, I don't know. I'm avoiding spoilers for obvious reasons.

My Olberic is level 16, Tessa is 15, Primrose is 15, Alfyn is 14 and Therion is 10. I just beat the boss in Therion's chapter one, so I'm going to finish that off now, do a bit more grinding and then I think I'll go unlock H'aanit next.

Anyone played the new Mario Tennis yet? Any good? Can you do like a co-op team campaign?

I want to be into Octopath but I'm super skeptical about the 8 split characters thing and I hear while they do tie in sure... it's really not anything super in depth, like no grand joint story arc in the end or whatnot. I've never been a huge fan of this format for JRPG's. The voice acting in this style seems a bit odd too.

It looks way better than some of the other throwbacks Square produced though, names I've already forgotten. I'm still interested but might keep waiting it out a bit. Most things I've heard are really positive though.

I really can't say enough nice things about Octopath and I was skeptical going in as well.

I just started the intro story for the last of the eight companions. I'm really looking forward to getting to unlock dual classing, but so far the battle system has been staying fun and things have scaled really well. It'll be interesting to see how things are once I start doing the chapter twos.

How are the boss fights? Does SE force you to use specific job and class skills or fail a battle, or like their pre FF10 era stuff can you get creative and still win now that some of you have played it? It’s an investment for me to bite into a full price game, don’t want to feel trapped like how Bravely Default degraded into with that female boss fight in the fire area. I recall being a higher level than her party, good damage skills, but the game demanded two classes with a specific job to be used I had no use for as they’re crap in general so I never raised them. I ended up choosing waste 10hrs leveling up 2 characters or quit, I quit as my time is limited. That’s what I want to avoid.
