their are variations of this diet substituting bananas for other fresh fruit, but just to keep things simple i'm starting with the bananas for two weeks.

honestly, it's mostly for my girlfriend's sake, since i'll only be seeing for 7 whole days in two weeks from now and then a several month long gap. so even if the diet effects are short term only, that's fine for now!

i read up on the banana, and though i'm sure a lot of it is hype, it seems like a good candidate. even on a japanese program, it sounded right for this job. absorbing fat, aiding in regular digestion, etc.

before this, i've been eating raw oats in the morning, sometimes with fresh grapes and a spoonful of natural peanut butter. i've also been eating smaller meals at great intervals to boost my metabolism, and trying to get some light exercise (walking to the post office, occasional bike ride or skateboarding). i've been doing this for two to three weeks, so i think it's a nice gradual intro to this banana diet. if things go well, i might look into trying it with another fruit instead, but given how cheap bananas are, it sounds like the best option for me at the moment.

RemyC - where did you hear that? that sounds more like green bananas, specifically. i'm only eating one, maybe two at breakfast only.

itsamemario - i almost never drink soda. i went on a mountain code red binge 7 1/2 years ago and after that i got so sick of soda. i try not to buy cereal, because i know i'm bound to eat the whole box in a matter of a few days (honey bunches of oats, specifically.)

there's lots of other healthy options for THIS specific diet, sure. but i'm on a very tight budget, and making curry or enchiladas from scratch is cheaper and healthier than frozen pizza :?

Bananas in general "gum up the works". If you are going to be eating them in large quantities constantly, you will get constipated.
When I was a young kid, I had dietary issues. I wont go into great details about what my problem was...lets just say, "instead of logs, it was mush". I was told to eat a lot of bananas to fix this issue.

One or two at breakfast is fine. Your original post came off as though you were strictly eating bananas all day.

Eating bananas attracts mosquitoes. My cousin's daughter loves bananas, ate 3 or 4 a day. When summer came she was being eaten alive. Someone in the park noticed and asked if she eaten a lot of bananas that week. When she stopped the mosquitoes did aswell.

This one has been around for atleast a decade. How it really works is simply a banana is more healthy for you than a bowl or two of most cereals (especially the good ones like Cinnamon Toast Crunch...). Therefore replacing your high sugar breakfast with a moderate sugar high potassium one, will make you lose weight, no question. Now if you are moderately active and already eat a mostly healthy diet, this wont do anything more than a few pounds, if that.

The last time I needed to lose alot weight I just cut breakfast, and most lunchs, out entirely. Sure it is the most important meal in the day, but I replaced it with a three mile walk and about a gallon of water and I lost alot of weight. But that was a stupid idea and I still havent fully recovered.

I could go on, I was a Health Inspector and almost a registered Food Scientist, but work is calling.

I have never heard of the "banana Diet"
I always eat 1 banana 15 mins prior to weight lifting and then another banana 30 mins into the workout, the potassium really helps me. I drink probably 6 liters of water a day, i do however drink one of those small 12 oz diet cokes for breakfast and lunch. But all the water I intake counteracts all the sodium in the diet coke.

If you truly want to lose weight and maintain that final weight, it has to be a lifestyle change. Diet, cardio, and light weight training, and lots and lots of water. Your able to have one cheat day where you can eat something unhealthy (example: pizza, mcdonalds etc) but once you get your metabolism kicking at full speed you can relax a little, but not much :)

PS- from what i have seen You always gain your weight back with fad diets

It doesn't sound good to me. Anything where you have to deprive yourself of a lot of food or eat the same thing every day is not only hard to sustain, but it also lacks balanced nutrition. The best way to lose weight is to exercise daily for at least 30 minutes (even if that's only going for a walk) and to eat foods that low in calories.

To lose weight and keep it off you have to be willing to stick with a diet and exercise plan for your whole life. I couldn't eat just a banana for breakfast and lunch my whole life, but I can stick to a plan of eating within a 2000-2500 daily calorie limit and getting at least 30 minutes of exercise each day.

I only started doing this religiously about a year and a half ago and I've lost about 30 pounds.

you are correct sir, i weight lift , run 3 miles and mountain bike 10 miles every week, but notall in the same day of course. I lift 5 days a week , i run 3 of those days and the other 2 days and saturday i bike ride 10 miles.
I don't really lose much weight, i have gained a heck of alot of muscle and so my weight is at about 210 and i am 6 foot. but i have a 32 inch waist line
