hey dudes/dudettes, looking for some thoughts here... My wife and I will have some time off coming up, and I expect a fair amount of time spent outside relaxing. So I'm thinking about some local co-op games that we might want to look into on the Switch. I've posted some games below that maybe we could be interested in, but curious about thoughts on them...

Hyrule Warriors - This is one of those what do you call it games, right? Dynasty Warriors, etc right? I don't know anything about those games. I have no idea if I'd like it. No idea if my wife would. What's it like? What's the appeal? How's the local co-op? Split screen I assume? Does it work well?

Minecraft - Does the Switch version have split screen? This could be pretty relaxing.

Snipperclips - What even is this? I've heard people like it. Looks kind of silly to me. Like a mobile kids game or something. Am I wrong?

Super Bomberman R - This is probably a safe bet.

...Mario Kart is kind of the safe bet backup.

Yeah that is part of those Dynasty Warriors games for Zelda. Basically you control not just a mob, but multiple mobs of people and jump between ordering or direct controlling other main line Zelda characters as they're captain in charge. You need to fast coordinate a battle or multiple skirmishes to finish a stage. The appeal there is just being able to handle that much chaos and not lose because you miss the AI slipping or some weird battle condition isn't met. I've tried a few times to get into it, and I can't so I skipped it and the last one I tried was at the 3DS launch.

I can't help you with the others. There is more to snipperclips than how you put it but I can't describe it well but it is very much one to be more enjoyable not played alone which is why I ignored it.


Sonic Mania came earlier, really nice package with the art book. They did a good job with it, hope the game is as excellent as it's about to start.

Fire Emblem Warriors kinda works like that, but not Hyrule Warriors. In Hyrule Warriors you control just one super-powerful warrior in a fairly simple but not totally dead-easy battle between armies mostly composed of far weaker fodder troops, kinda strong lieutenants, and powerful generals similar in strength to you (and are often also playable characters themselves). The Switch version does indeed have a split screen as well as all the DLC the Wii U version had, but the Wii U version lets you use the TV for one player and the game pad's screen for the other player, so I personally prefer that version for co-op play. It's a fantastically fun game (and probably the best modern Warriors game), and I would definitely recommend it, especially if she knows anything about LoZ

Snipperclips is a co-op puzzle game that revolves around a fairly simple premise (cutting each other into pieces using one another) and slowly advancing it. It's definitely something I'd pick up if either of you like puzzle games that give you plenty of time to think

Then of course, Overcooked is another fantastic co-op game for both seasoned and newbie gamers that I would absolutely look into if you guys haven't already

Co-op plays fine, my wife and I have played quite a bit of it together. The game is great in my opinion. It's one of the better Dynasty Warriors type games I've played (I'm no connoisseur though) and there's tons of fan service for Zelda fans. I don't know how I can describe the appeal though, as the gameplay is pretty repetitive. It's just great in shorts bursts though (maybe not a game to play for hours in one go).

Snipperclips in an incredible co-op game. I think you're wrong to dismiss it as a mobile kids game or something. It is incredibly clever. It's like a puzzle game with lots of different scenarios and you have to work together to figure out either what you need to do, how you need to do it, or both.

I have to warn you though, once you get past the first few easy levels, the game will be responsible for destroying your marriage. At least my wife and I cannot play the game without having huge arguments and almost filing for divorce...

Yeah, pick it up if you can get it cheap. I was a bit disappointed with it at launch though when it was full price. It's alright... Just isn't exactly Saturn Bomberman, you know?

Hyrule Warriors is a lot of fun. I've only played the Wii U and 3DS versions, and those had a few issues in multiplayer if you were going for 100% (less enemies spawning at once meant it often took longer to complete tasks) but it was still a load of fun. The Wii U has co-op split between gamepad and TV, I don't know how the Switch handles it but I assume Wii U.

Snipperclips is a really fun puzzle game where you can cut shapes out of each others bodies in order to help you solve puzzles. Some are simple cases of 'cut yourselves into the right shape to fit an outline' but some require more abstract thought - like cutting a hook shape so you can pull things down, or making yourself look like a cog so you can turn a gear. It's pretty great, but it's very short - even the extended Snipperclips Plus. Me and the missus played through it together and had a great time.

Can't speak for the other games on your list, but if you've not already played it on another platform, Overcooked is an absolutely fantastic co-op game - my fiance got super into it and we ended up getting the top rating on every mission. We're eagerly anticipating Overcooked 2 right now.

I also hear good things about Lovers In A Dangerous Spacetime, but have yet to try it. Now that physical version is out, maybe Ill give it a try.

I was personally very disappointed with Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime when a friend and I played a bit of it last year. It was really a case of "why are we playing this kinda boring game when we could be playing something like Octodad, Battle Block Theater, or Overcooked?" Perhaps y'all will enjoy it more than I did though. I'd watch footage of the first couple levels though. If I'd had done that, I think I probably would've rightfully given it a pass
