Saw the Incredibles 2 last night, hard to believe that the first one premiered 14 years ago!
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Oh wow, yeah, that is some time ago. Does it live up to the legacy of the first film?

I think Incredibles 2 is just as good as the first one. It's highly recommended.

It does live up the legacy of the first one for sure, but not surpassing it. Will not surprise me if this becomes a TV series in the short run, unless Pixar is planning for more sequels within a few years.marurun wrote:Oh wow, yeah, that is some time ago. The Red Turtle - not worth the gushing it got at the Annies in 2016. It was a decent premise, with a brilliant art style and direction, but went on for far to long and the ending was not satisfying. Basic concept is a man is stuck on an island and cant escape since a Red Turtle keeps stopping him. The art style is very Dutch with a very distinctive CG used for the raft and turtles. Worth a watch, but it did not have a chance vs Kubo and the Two Strings or Zooptopia.

Loving Vincent - Absolutely brilliant in concept and execution. It is the only feature film animated in oil paintings. They filmed actors, then keyed them ontop of the Van Gogh paintings, then painting that. The result is a memorizing mess of realistic oil painting that sometimes goes near the uncanny valley but just sucks you in. Follows Armand Roulin trying to deliver a letter to Vincent's brother a year after his death in the town of Auvers-sur-Oise. I thought it was going to be a hokey experimental film but it is a film that sticks in your mind and shows not only did Dorota Kobiela & Hugh Welchman do their research, that they have a genuine respect for the artist. Well for example, here is a screen grab:
