For some reason before I even read the little article I knew that it had something to do with how their most recent showings were not all that great. I also agree with what the guy in the article said. They need to make something more serious besides a simply "Decent" Perfect Dark game. Something else completely original, a return to an old franchise of theirs or maybe just make a GOOD Perfect Dark game. I know many of the old school fans will come flocking back after that.

Why go back to nintendo of course!

But it would be interesting if they did create a second party development studio with nintendo or hell, even sony. As one of the users on there posted, the fan base of the 360 really can't appreciate the ideas Rare has up for offer. tbh, the PS3 or the Wii seems more likely to get people to play their games, the Wii cuz it has already proven to be a DS for your TV, something that most adults find very inviting; the PS3 cuz with the PS2 fanbase, if the Sony makes a few more that is :P (rumors are reggie Fils-aime is going to the factories and turning into the hulk, crushing all of the new units  )

First off RARE is now owned by Microsoft, like Microsoft will let their 375 million dollar little shell of a company go and make games on competing hardware.

Second, what the FUCK is wrong with their cutesey games? Ok... Bond sold a lot of copies, so did Killer Instinct and Perfect Dark... tell me something though; what other 'adult' themed games of theirs can you remember? Now let me ask how many of their cutesey games can you name? A TON, one in particular was the flaming pinnacle of the SNES and showed it off for what it was (though I personally don't like the console). DKC. It's not like their other titles didn't sell either, some are heralded as cult classics (konker).

Now I must say I am not a Rare fan at all. I like some of their games, but they are no where on a pedistal like I put Sega or Treasure. They come up with a descent game here and there and a lot were more cutesy, most were cutesy, and cutesy sold for them in the past or they would of stopped doing it YEARS ago.

Seriousily though do we need ANOTHER first person shooter? Do we really need another crappy 3D fighter (sorry, but 3D fighters really tend to suck hard ball sacks over and over... I wouldn't want to watch Killer Instinct go the route of Mortal Kombat, and you know that is what would happen).

Oh yeah and Kameo is damn fun with a great level of difficulty and is very engaging. Though the acting REALLY sucks.

Your point being? They own the rights to the RARE franchises, not the people. They can leave if they want. Hell, even the founder of the XBOX left. All Microsoft can do is throw money at it and hope it's enough to have them stay. And it's not like the days of Atari where they had to sign an agreement not to make games on competitors consoles, but if there is a small chance that they did do something like that, wow, they are retarded (RARE, not MS. MS would be a fucking genius if they got them to sign that)...

See, the problem with cutesy games is that there are too many little kids who think playing a violent game makes them grown up, while their are too many immature adults who feel violence is required to make a game "cool". Same with the boobie factor of DOA...I personally don't give a shit if I'm playing Dora the explorer as long as the game is good. fortunately there are no good games that are based off those kinds of horrid licenses, so I won't have to worry about playing a game starring her.

yes they could leave... and start another company. This isn't like atari or Nintendo NES with their strict contracts... Microsoft didn't sign Rare; they bought Rare. Rare is now a Microsoft property... not a licensed partner.

Because Rare is owned by Microsoft, all franchises under Rare are now also owned by Microsoft, Microsoft isn't going to allow their company to make games on other consoles for the mere fact it is competition.

If they did... well that'd be a strange move by a business. That'd be like Sony selling HD-DVD players and putting their movies on HD-DVD only. It's a sign to the consumers that they don't trust their own hardware.

RARE are one of the most overrated developers ever. Won't be sorry to see the back of them

i remember when dkc came out and the brothers stamper were the bee's knees. it really sucked to hear when they were bought by microsoft, but now i think starting a new company together would be a great idea. hopefully they can freely create the new generation's equivalent of dkc (as far as innovation, not so much the game itself)
