Slicing enemies in half with the laser rapier never got old.

Yeah Guardian Heroes was fairly disappointing for me. Guess I'm more a juvenile garbage kinda guy.

OK...OK...I take it back. God Hand is one of my “games not beaten” from about a decade ago (along with Odin Sphere), and I just don’t have fond memories of it. I will give it another shot sometime.

I don't think the humor in God Hand is juvenile necessarily, but it is raunchy. If you don't like raunchy humor, then yeah, it's not gonna be amusing.

The Leifthrasir remake is supposed to fix a lot of stuff:

"Additional stages and divisions between battle and exploration were created; defense and dodge actions were added for characters; extensive vertical plains were added to environments; enemy and boss AI was redesigned and refined; additional enemies and subbosses were included; a new difficulty level was added; and the POW gauge, inventory and Psypher systems were redesigned. In general, the overall graphical quality was improved, the resolution was increased, and the aspect ratio was changed from the original 4:3 to 16:9. While minimal work was done by Atlus' localization team for the remake, the amateur voice acting was replaced with professional performances."(From Wikipedia)

I've been enjoying beating these sixth gen PS2 beat 'em ups. That said, the amount of time it takes to beat even one of them (let alone 5 of them), is enough time to credit feed a dozen MAME beaters. I do have a short list of MAME beaters I plan to play through after God Hand. If I have time, I'll blaze through them and do simple write-ups.

I've only put in a stage's worth into the remake and it already feels a ton better. And another improvement is removing the slowdown that would plague most of the Belial fights. When the game was good the original was fantastic, but when it was bad it was one of the most frustrating things I've ever played. But I think the good outweighed the bad.

Well folks, I did it. I beat God Hand.

Proof:
Image
My camera's flash washed the CRT image out, sorry for the crappy quality.
My clear time sucks*, way too many continues, and my total average is laughable. Keep in mind though, I went into this experience blind with no strategy guide or walkthrough to help me out. Knowing what I know now, if I were to restart, I could beat God Hand in half the time, and probably average 2.5 or better easily. But nah, that's enough God Hand for me. I'm happy enough to have beaten this game on Normal. 90% of the people reading this paragraph couldn't beat this game on Normal. "What did that jerk just say?!" Yep, that's a challenge. Go beat God Hand tough guys! God Hand is no joke. It's legit challenging. It's even unfair at times. But God Hand's difficulty was nothing compared to Urban Reign's. So if you're looking to beat the hardest beat 'em up, God Hand's still just a stepping stone to the real deal.

I'll write some kind of review for God Hand later.

*Granted at least two hours (or more) of that time was spent screwing around in the casino.
