I find the planes thing to be pretty awkward. And I don't know. It just doesn't seem to gel with me. I'll try to push myself to complete it just to say that I have since I didn't bother to do so last time I gave it a go. What is it, like a couple of hours-ish?
It can’t be longer than that because I actually beat it.

Personally I found the game to be a lot of fun. If I hadn’t beaten it within the last couple years I’d play that one because I’ve tried several games this month and they’re all so shallow. I feel like that one has some elements that mix up the gameplay a bit more than most beat-em-ups. I think I might go back and play River City Rampage and see if that is more what I’m looking for.

Right after Final Fantasy Seven remake, right before Shenmue 4, and concurrent with Megaman Legends 3!

A single playthrough of Guardian Heroes takes about an hour and a half, if you don't run out of credits. Though you can play through it multiple times, and see new areas/enemies/plot stuff, because of the branching pathways. However, I didn't find the initial experience fun enough to bother repeating, variation or no.

I'm very glad you're playing God Hand. I'll enjoy reading your takes on the experience. I'm also glad to see someone besides just me playing a 3D beat 'em up here. (If I had more time to throw at this TR, I'd hit up some of the 3D beaters on PS1... there's quite a few.)

You mean in English? I thought it'd been out on 3DS in Japan for like a year and half? Or are we talking about different games? Xp

I definitely have picked up on the idea that the main technique to utilize is hit-hit-hit-hit, sidestep, hit-hit-hit-hit, sidestep, repeat until gauge(s) fill, special, repeat all over...I haven't played too much yet with rearranging my combos and what not. It looks like a rich system, though, which is cool. I've used a lot of continues even early. I thought that the flamboyant pair that I had to defeat earlier in the level were were a bit harder than the boss.
"That's what she said"
I also played through The Bouncer this weekend, which was ridiculously easy and fairly innocuous. Even though I remember the time well, I am still not sure why the game was so heralded as state-of-the-art back in the day (at the PS2 launch). The game camera is wonky as all hell, a few basic attacks are way OP and easy to pull off, and the most impressive graphics seem to be from CGI rather than from the in-game stuff itself. I am glad I played it after all these years, but I can't see ever wanting to go back to it for any reason.

If I could say anything negative about the overall design of God Hand, that'd probably be it. Q & A (as I call them, I think they're technically Mr. Gold and Mr. Silver or something) are a really difficult first mini-boss just by virtue of their being two of them, and they make the actual boss of that stage feel far easier just because they're so hard. A revamp of the first stage's difficulty curve would definitely make that game more easy to get into than it is. If their fight were more like the 3-thugs bosses where they fight you one at a time, I think that would've made that section gel better with the difficulty of the surrounding sections and a much better lead-up to Elvis (that's actually his name  ) in terms of difficulty curve.

I find the up-dodge move more useful than sidestep in general, but it depends on the enemy. You get a move pretty soon that quickly fills your God Hand gauge when you land it; that helps make beating bosses easier. You'll definitely want to start customizing your combos, because you'll be getting more powerful attacks (as rewards or buying them from the shop). I'm particularly fond of the 20-30 damage kick styles. The only enemy in this game that gives me fits so far, is one of the demon types - it's a spike exploder...
