Our culture is already violent and misogynistic. This type of nonsense this doesn't "subvert" violence in any meaningful way, it just revels in it. Pretty gross that the developer chose this particular scene to be the cucking trailer for the game. 0/10 will not buy.
Does violence against women automatically make something misogynistic? There's certainly misogynistic violence, but if you want to have females in works you need to also be able to be violent to those same females.

I know over the shoulder camera is a turn off for some fans but for me is ok. Im really excited about this game.
The game also does offer the option for a fixed camera like the original.
Yeah, this has gotten my attention. I'm very curious how it will be implemented.

I still didn't found any official press release or interview that confirms the fixed camera angles, so for now im not gettin my hopes up on that feature.

I wasn't really that excited for Switch Smash Bros before E3, but I gotta say watching that conference got me CRAZY hype for it earlier today. I don't know if I'll still want it come December, but it definitely made tuning in for the live conference feel very worth it :3

Also SO excited for Overcooked 2! A sequel to one of the best co-op focused games ever made? YES PLEASE!

I will leave the "misogyny" argument aside as it simply doesn't apply to TLOU2. But, on violence more generally: do you feel the same way about horror films or music with violent lyrics? You play a lot of games that were once considered quite violent...is this really significantly different?

I don't know if I believe that is true now. The PS4 and PC are pushing near photorealistic stuff now. It's a very, very small leap from where we're at now to what looks absolutely real if they want it to.
I hear what you are saying, but your argument is basically the same one that people made about the "level" of violence exhibited in games when the industry started integrating video capture technology, FMV, 3D environments, etc. I think in 20 years we will be looking at something like the trailer for TLOU2 and violence of this era the same way we now look at Mortal Kombat, Postal, Night Trap, or even Manhunt, GTA III/IV games, etc. today.

Except that proximity to reality isn’t necessarily always relative. Current fidelity in games is far closer to recorded real-life than at any previous time.

This statement was also true in 1993, 2003, etc.

That is my argument. We are already very close to photorealism. And while others might have argued that we were close to it before, I have never made that argument. My own critiques were that things looked amazing, considering limitations at the time. This has edged extremely close to actual movie quality. There were segments of the trailer where I thought it looked absolutely real.

As for the misogyny bent mentioned earlier, I actually buy into that a bit less. It looks to me like there's a lot of equal opportunity killing here. And one could easily make the argument that if we're going for equality, you'd need dudes and ladies getting killed and doing the killing.

For something different, I'm intrigued by Smash, although my enthusiasm has waned a bit since Brawl. I hope there's a good single-player mode, because honestly, the Wii U/3DS games handled that very poorly.

Truth.

I think folks have to understand that the point of the violence is to illicit the horrified response. It's intention is to shock... to make you aware of the brutality of humanity and what we are capable of.

Should we censor films like schindler's list or saving private ryan because it is too violent? They are far more realistic and put the viewer in the moment. This game is attempting to exemplify those same sorts of qualities in a fictional scenario. It is meant to horrify you in a far more real way than any other horror game.

The Smash Bros novelty wore off of me years ago. I'd rather have a good story mode or some new mechanics. The biggest roster ever = meh.

Did we seriously not get any Metroid Prime 4 news?

---

I liked The Last of Us a fair bit even if the gameplay was dull (better than Uncharted though).
I am excited for The Last of Us 2 and will definitely play it.

That said, the hyper violent and graphic slant they're going for with their videos doesn't bother me... it's just that the marketing and these trailers bore the crap out of me. I don't think it showcases very well and almost slip into a coma with their slow as molasses paced trailers and whatnot. I thought the Sony show was awful for the first 45 minutes or whatever but when all the other games started popping up it got awesome.

Wanted to bring up From Software's Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice again and say that I think I need to see more of this one at this point. I love feudal Japan settings and am excited for that with Ghost of Tsushima and Nioh 2, however... I'm not sure about Sekiro. Coming out of From's awesome take on dark low fantasy with the Souls games and then the gothic insanity that is Bloodborne, Sekiro looks kind of... vanilla? And if it's also one note setting wise like Bloodborne was, but just feudal Japan... not sure what to think. Hopefully I needn't worry and they surprise me as always, with the mechanical arm thing I'd be cool for some weird steampunk/fantasy stuff.

Still curious to see if the fixed camera angle thing is an optional setting or unlockable, but man this looks incredible. I only skimmed this and might consider media blackout now... it's going to be pure bliss and only 7 months away! I'd wager FF7R is 70 years away, even though Square Enix announced it a year prior to Capcom announcing this remake... dayum, Capcom were on life support last gen for a second there and now they're making Square Enix look bad.

But yeah ultimately Capcom won my heart over again this E3. DMC5 and RE2R are the omega hype and it was so awesome to see both those games got quite possibly the biggest pops at the MS and Sony shows. I predict with gaming being as huge as it is thesedays that RE2R could dethrone Monster Hunter World and become Capcom's next biggest seller of all time. I think it'll be another RE2/RE4 level splash. Also pumped for Mega Man 11. All I could ask for next is an Onimusha sequel or reboot!
