Crisis Evil

Post by Ack »

I couldn't find any other posts about this Beats of Rage mod for the DC. It's a beat 'em up version of Resident Evil 1 and 2, featuring a few crossovers from later games(found a YouTube video of Leon fighting Nemesis). Has anybody tried it, and if so, is it any good? I've already downloaded it at home, but it's going to be a while before I can play it.

While I was aware of its existence, this is one I've never given a whirl. I'm glad you posted the links though, because after seeing the screenshots, I'm going to give this a-go.

As far as Crisis Evil is concerned... it didn't seem to have the polish I look for in BOR mods. It also felt a bit clunky. Of course, I'm not a huge RE fan, so maybe a big-time follower of the series can look past these flaws.

My personal favorite mods from BoR (OpenBOR, actually) are Mr.Q creations.

Final Fight Apocalypse: 2nd Edition
Double Dragon Extreme
Return of the Double Dragon

Golden Axe Remake by utunnels is worth checking out, as it is a pixel-perfect remake of the Golden Axe which makes use of all of OpenBOR's newer featured to provide an exact replica of the original. As far as the original BOR, I also love this bWWd creation, Battletoads, and the KingHerb classic Dragons of Rage.

All of these are playable on the Dreamcast if you look for a OpenBOR release that included DC support.

Shameless self-promotion: I'm working on a OpenBOR mod too.

Very nice, you better let us know when it's finished so I can check it out.

Oh yeah, any idea how that Aliens vs. Predator remake is coming? I hear about it from time to time, but then it's nothing for long periods of time.

Haven't heard anything recent about an AvP remake, actually. I remember seeing something about it way back when, but I couldn't find a demo or anything. Sorry bout that.

It's cool.

Having spent a few minutes playing Crisis Evil, I can definitely see what you mean about it lacking polish. It is...well, frankly, it looks like crap. It's too bad, too, I was really interested in it. Oh well.

AvP Aftermath had a demo come out on the DC BoR Collection 2 disc. It is far from finished but it is really pretty.

Yeah, I found it last night. Good God it makes me miss the arcade game so much.

I can imagine with the current improvements in the OpenBOR engine, an AvP remake would be very possible, maybe even easy.

And yeah, saying a mod 'lacks polish' is basically my nicer way of saying 'looks really bad'. =P Still, if you want really good mods, check out those I talked about earlier. FFA-2E has the benefit of being 4-player, which is really great on the Dreamcast.

(And if you thought Crisis Evil looked bad, the for the love of God, don't look into Hatchet Ninjaz. I wrote a particularly scathing review of that and then have a whole cadre of fans attack me. I can't help that the gameplay, animations, dialog and practically everything else that made up that mod were just awful!)

I haven't played it yet, but it was actually on the same collection as the AvP mod. The Mega Man mod was also on one of those collections...I enjoyed it, but I really wish they had picked a general size of enemies and gone with it. It's not easy to do much when two enemies cover the entire screen and I can't see all the little ones running around at my feet.
