I'm making slight changes to my list once more guys...
Virtua Racing, MegaMan X4, Castlevania Chronicles and Phantasy Star Online are unfortunately stepping out of the year's challenge.
VR i'm not really in the mood to play , MMX4 actually feels off when i haven't played MMX2 and MMX3 at all, Castlevania Chronicles will definitely burn me out on castlevania 2d and i'm getting Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon day 1.
PSO i'm ruling out simply because Diablo 2 is going to be my grind/loot-fest for now.
My list now comes to this:
.Max Payne (Playstation 4) - 05/13/2018 BEATEN
.Carmageddon (PC)
.Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution (Playstation 2)
.Contra: Shattered Soldier (Playstation 2)
.Castlevania: Lament of Innocence (Playstation 2)
.Diablo II (PC)
Newcomers:
.Gauntlet: Dark Legacy (GameCube)
.Red Faction (Playstation 4)
.Max Payne 2 (PC)
Read about Gauntlet: Dark Legacy today and got hooked by it's looks, played the hell of the first one on Master System and the apeal of a 3d version hit me real good.
Red Faction, got real cheap on PSN this week and since FPS is my favourite gender i decided to add it.
Max Payne 2, the first one left a very strong impression on me, i simply won't wait 1 year to see Max Payne's next adventure.
I can see how for many of you it's a steep down from the former and how lame it is to change it like this but i think i will enjoy it a lot more now.
I got 1 game left and i think i'm waiting a bit more to decide it further down the road.

Re: Summer Games Challenge 2018 - let's think about our list
Oh, bummer man. Mega Man X4 is by far my favorite of the X series besides the first game. I'd totally recommend you reconsider. You can always play X2 and X3 later.
Castlevania: Chronicles rules as well. But I mean, I guess I can see the worry for burnout on that one.
PSO is amazing. I can't speak on Diablo II having only played the first and third. But PSO is definitely amazing.

10. ???

Re: Summer Games Challenge 2018 - let's think about our list
All right folks, it's on! I brought Tetris to the waiting room yesterday and actually managed to beat Mode B. My husband's ankle surgery went great, but I'll have you know I finished the game before the surgeon had closed him up, so yeah. I won that one too.
In case anyone's not familiar with how Mode B works, you choose a speed level (0-9) and a row height level (0-5), and have to successfully clear 25 rows. The height thing is interesting, because the game randomly generates partially filled rows that you immediately have to factor into your strategy. When you're going at speed 9, failing to take in the ten spotty rows quickly enough to place your first piece well will wreck you. In fact, I'd say most of my games at Level 9 High 5 lasted fewer than seven seconds.
And yes, as Bone mentioned, there is an ending. When you play on the highest speed, you get an adorable cutscene of musicians playing a few measures of Tchaikovsky's Russian Dance. The higher the High, the more musicians appear and the more filled out the tune gets -- and when you beat the highest High, you watch a shuttle launch, because... the Space Race? I guess? I think Bullet-Proof software was running out of stereotypical Russian tropes to stuff into the game. I'm surprised chess doesn't show up somewhere.
The entire reason I got invested in wanting to beat Game Boy Tetris was because of those little musicians, by the way. When I was messing around with my Game Genie back in the day (using the "Need 1 line to finish game B" cheat), I discovered those cutscenes and was fascinated. I always wanted to earn them legit, and now I have! White whale bested.
And speaking of the Game Genie, here are some pictures. It gets ridiculous real fast.
Here's my cart with the code sticker stuck to the back:
Here's the Game Genie plugged into the Pocket, which you shouldn't do on road trips because it's so top heavy it'll tip your car:
And here's the Game Genie's buttflap where you store your itty bitty codebooks, because the Game Boy has a gimmick, damn it, and we're going to stick with it until we die on this handheld hill with our last portable breath:

Aw thanks. Yup! I posted it pretty early in the thread. Guess I should keep updating it with the crossouts though.lordb0rb4 wrote:I'm glad for your husband and good luck on the challenge!
Do you already have a list Key?
The first five in bold are my targets, but when it comes down to it I'm aiming to clear any five:
1. The Last Express (DOS)
2. StarTropics (NES)
3. Maniac Mansion (NES)
4. Lemmings (GEN)
5. Metroid Fusion (GBA)
6. LOOM (ScummVM)
7. Tetris (GB)
8. Resident Evil: Code Veronica (PS2)
9. Ultima III: Exodus (NES)
10. Where in America's Past is Carmen Sandiego? (DOS)
In just a few moments I'm going to start installing The Last Express and Where in America's Past is Carmen Sandiego? on my Win95 virtual machine, and tomorrow I'm going to open up and clean my newly-gifted StarTropics and Maniac Mansion carts. Not sure yet what's getting fired up next!
