A lot of that friendships crumbling because of attempting a relationship thing comes from people mismanaging their behavior and expectations. But wanting a relationship with or being interested in a friend can also put a lot of strain on and ultimately damage a friendship as well. Feelings are complicated, and not acting on them can create just as much trouble as acting on them and falling flat. We can give you advice but we can't tell you what to do. It seems, from your posts, like you're interested. And if there's a chance she's sending signals your way that she might also be interested, well, I guess it just depends on which kind of worry or loss you dislike the least. Which kind of regret is more bearable to you, the regret that you did something, or the regret that you didn't?

Plus, I won't see her in person for at least a month anyway, she'll probably have a new man by then.

I suggest just doing friend stuff together, like going to thrift stores, playing video games, watching movies, rock climbing, grabbing some Chinese food, just hanging out, etc. Nothing has to be a “formal” date, and you don’t have to ask her out for a fancy candlelit dinner or anything. (You really only do that once you’re in already in a relationship.) There really aren’t any complicated procedures or rules to follow. If you do some (or a bunch) of this and end up making out, then, great! You’re kind of dating! If not, then you just spent some fun time hanging out with a good friend.

Basically, just dial the formality and pressure way down, relax, have fun with a person you like, and see where it goes. You shouldn’t try forcing it into one thing or another.

Then it never will be anything if I'm not putting in effort. Whatever, I shouldn't have said anything.

Well, I apparently have a bladder infection. I spent all day in the ER, and I feel miserable.

Wow, that sucks. I've had a prostate infection on a couple occasions, and I understand it manifests very similarly.

Smile: The Babymetal concert was fucking amazing!

Frown: My 5 hours of sleep got interrupted midway through by my calf decided to knot up and wake me up with stabbing pains. It's still throbbing.

Sorry about the infections guys, hope y'all get better!

:? Already stressing about jobs before even sending out a resume. Don't know where I want to be or anything. I have some arguing for a job back by the college, others arguing for a job near my parents, and others arguing to get out of the state. I don't know what the right decision is, and I have no idea how to figure out if I'll be afford to live anywhere. Gahhh.

I got way more of a kick than I should have out of reading some old code of mine, with a comment that said: "[...C]ompute steady state hamster distribution [...]." Only thing that might have made me laugh more is if I had thrown in something about hamster eigenvectors.

Finally got myself a treadmill, it was delivered today. After the magical feat of getting it in my basement by myself, I set it up and ran a half mile. Well, ran might not be the right word. I averaged about 3 MPH, so fast walking is more like it. It only took about 11 minutes, but I wanna start slow and work my way up. I'm not sure which is better: Going slower for longer, or faster for shorter.

I’m no fitness guru, but I can tell you that I asked the same question a while ago.

Turns out that from a strictly caloric standpoint, they are equal. Yes, really. If you run a full mile at 6mph for 10 minutes one day, then jog a mile at 3mph for 20 minutes the next day (assuming all else is equal) then you will burn the same number of calories on both days. It’s all just simple math.

There’s no lack of self-proclaimed fitness experts. Sometimes it’s hard to know who’s on the level and who’s not. My rule of thumb is to trust in fitness advice that can be backed up with simple math, and disregard anything that can’t. Stay skeptical; I don’t know all the answers either.

One more thing: I learned the hard way that your foot posture matters a whole lot on the treadmill. I’m flat-footed. It never bothered me much my whole life until I started running on the treadmill. It made my knees ache like crazy. I had to take a week off the treadmill just so my knees would feel better. They still ache sometimes.

Now I’m more mindful about how my feet make contact with the treadmill. Heel-to-toe running is easier on my knees than my regular flat-footed running.
