Summer Games Challenge 2018 - begin when ready!

Shotgun almost always decaps if you aim up and let them get close. Can't be a crimson head if you don't have a head.

Thank you, i'm sure i can manage it, the whole idea behind it's inception was exactly it, a list i can beat.Sload Soap wrote:Man, that's a hella list. Hope you make it through them all. Nice to see some 3D vania love, I prefer Curse of Darkness but LOI is good as well.
I remember playing Curse of Darkness a bit and LOVED the hole forging system but did not get too far, i have high expectations on LOI as well, do you have any experience with it? Any general tips at all?

Lament is a little simpler in that regard, there's not a forging system that I remember. The areas I believe are a bit smaller, which I think is a good thing. I also like the combat a bit more. Just learn some good whip combos, that helps a lot. The soundtrack is still AAA-tier. To me, it feels closer to Devil May Cry in the Castlevania universe.

Sarge summed it up pretty well. I think I reviewed LOI back in the day. Remember it being pretty easy and short for a Vania game even a 3D one but still have good memories of it.lordb0rb4 wrote:Thank you, i'm sure i can manage it, the whole idea behind it's inception was exactly it, a list i can beat.Sload Soap wrote:Man, that's a hella list. Everything about this is fine: it announces its presence and runs directly into your kill zone. What could be easier?Key-Glyph wrote:Ack wrote:It's not that bad. Remember when playing a survival horror game like this: you have range, while most of your enemies don't. Therefore, you have an advantage. You have more health than most of your enemies. You're often faster or the same speed as many of your enemies. When enemies do have range, they're usually slower to fire than you are. You have a variety of weapons at your disposal, so you have options, while your enemies are limited in action based upon their design. Your enemies are nowhere near as versatile or capable as you are. And in the grand scheme, you will likely confront hundreds of your enemies, and they will fail to kill you. Repeatedly.
In a survival horror game, you are the monster.

I find it easier to slay my enemies when they groan/hiss/clickity-click their presence and shamble lethargically into my kill zone, personally. I'm trying to think up an equivalent phrase for "different strokes for different folks." Different kills for different Jills?Ack wrote:Everything about this is fine: it announces its presence and runs directly into your kill zone. What could be easier?
Hey Sarge and lordb0rb4, did you guys start already? Is it time to break out the figurative soda, chips, and crisps?!

I'm playing right now and almost at the end of the part I (out of III) and i'm VERY impressed and really enamoured with this gem.
The adrenaline and tension of going room by room is exhilarating because at the same time Max is kinda fragile and prone to suffer heavy damage by enemy gunfire , his weaponry is equally deadly if this makes any sense.
The presentation is top-notch in all aspects, the comic-book noir, the gfx photorealism and even the game-world presents itself rooted in reality (i'm finding the verticality very refreshing even after 17 years).

Max Payne is a real favorite of mine. The combat system was really unique at the time and the presentation of the story had a ton of style to it. Max Payne 2 really refines the gameplay. And while it had problems, I liked how Max Payne 3 took a ton of cues from Man on Fire in how they presented everything.
